Kra'Akas[edit]

Whatever you do, don't eat the coconuts.

Physical Description[edit]

They are little knee high creatures that look like a rather large coconut with arms and legs. Over their main body, they have anywhere between three and eleven holes that drive deep into their bodies, as well as fibrous hairs. These holes often comprise of their face as well as other orifices Using these holes, they let out varying tones of noise with which they communicate with from an organ which manipulates air in their partially hollow bodies. However, no other species can reproduce these sounds, leaving them unintelligible. They do have another form of communication, which will be explained later. Their body color usually ranges from a light sand to a darker brown, just like a coconut. From the sides of the nut body, they have short, stout and surprisingly agile limbs. They are often seen with masks or face paint depicting expressions. sometimes they adorn themselves with "jewelry" from shells and plants. These creatures can live for very long times, the oldest is to believed to be somewhere in the range of 500 years. They seem to grow forever, albeit very slowly.

History[edit]

Kra'akas are believed to be coconuts that accrued the spirits or enmity of those drowned at sea. When coconuts fall, they are often washed into the ocean to find new places to grow roots. Sometimes, they pick up bits of spirits or emotions left behind that, when accumulated, gain a sort of sentience. When the spiritually possessed coconut comes to shore and takes root, it grows a regular looking tree that bears odd fruits. These are the kra'akas. They are larger than usual coconuts and often have been known for attacking people on the beaches they infest. They are believed to be belligerent due to their birth being that of strong emotional possession, possibly the anger of the drowned. People who live near those coasts refer to them as pests and nuisances. Their name comes from the sound they make when they bump into each other or are struck, which sounds like an odd crack.

Society[edit]

Kra'akas infest beaches where their primary seed washes ashore. They arrange their villages around the tree which birthed them and protect and nurture it from parasites and weeds. The tree will birth infinitely more kra'akas so long as it is healthy, ensuring a long lifeline for the village. Kra'akas have a pseudo-democratic monarchy where the king, which is the oldest, largest and strongest kra'aka rules, but consults the people on important choices, which are then put to vote. They are not typically adventurous and like to travel and hunt in packs. Kra'akas territories are fiercely guarded and, due to their odd appearance, they rarely ever leave their village.

Music and Language[edit]

Kra'akas cannot communicate verbally with other creatures using their woodwind bodies due to their unique sound. They therefore invented a special rhythmic ham-boning technique, which works similar to Morse code. They strike their bodies in specific ways to make sounds for meaning. This helps a little with communication to outsiders, but this remains a rather unknown language, save among learned folks. They have learned to read and write, however. Kra'akas are very auditory-based creatures and also do this ham-boning onto themselves as a means of dance, music and singing all in one. Sometimes, people will take dead kra'akas shells and make instruments out of them due to their musically enhanced bodies.
