The spellcaster can scour the area for dead spirits with expertise in any field of Knowledge. Success requires a Diplomacy check with a DC of 15+modifier of the DM's choice, based on the likelihood that a person died within fifty miles of the spellcaster's location within the last year with the correct knowledge. Spirits are always truthful but can not answer personal questions like "who killed Josaphat?" They may, however, answer questions that might be appropriate for a Knowledge (Local Lore) check, such as "Who is the Queen's most trusted advisor?"
