The Knochenbrecher is basically a massive two handed “Kriegsmesser” (war knife), clearly dedicated to a brutal fencing of devastating chopping blows. Unlike the Greatsword, which features a similar length and weight, the Knochenbrecher is characterised by a wide and thick single-edged blade and is usually regarded as a non-noble weapon. It means its typical wielders are professional mercenaries: in well-trained hands, the Knochenbrecher excels in truncating pikes and lances, as well as arms, legs and heads of the enemies.
A Knochenbrecher is too large to use even in two hands without special training; thus, it is an exotic weapon. A character without the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat can use a Knochenbrecher with two hands as a martial weapon with a -2 penalty to attack rolls when wielding it, because of its wide, thick and tip-heavy balanced blade.
