Kingdom Management (5e Other)
From D&D Wiki
Kingdom Management[edit]
Sometimes in their career after saving up enough money adventurers may wish to own property such as houses or castles. In some events, adventurers may end up ruling a kingdom of their own and wish to invest in public works or in building up infrastructure. These are large, expensive projects, only likely to be carried out by a state or country. They rarely have immediate benefits and they're neither portable nor as glamorous as owning another magic sword, but a ruler will find that they more than pay for themselves in the long run.
Buildings[edit]
Wretched Shack[edit]
Cost: 50 gp (to own), 1 gp/month (rent)
Only one step above homelessness, this is a tiny one-room house made from whatever bottom-of-the-barrel building materials are on hand and the labor of the lowest bidder. Even in big, prosperous cities, the utilities range from poor to nonexistent. Commonly seen in shanty houses or slums, it's a residence for the desperately poor who cannot afford anything better. But at least it's cheap.
Roads[edit]
There are many benefits to investing in roads. A road is a visible way to follow, which leads to fewer people getting lost in the wilderness. Roads make travel quicker, connect towns to each other, and make trade more efficient, boosting the economy. They are useful for military purposes, and are in general a symbol of order and civilization. Everyone appreciates having well-maintained roads to walk on. In all cases, you can buy wider roads by multiplying the cost by the width in multiples of 5 feet; for example, 1 mile of paved road that's 20' wide (a standard highway) costs 10,000 gp.
Packed Dirt Road (1 mile)[edit]
Cost: 500 gp
A simple 5' wide road of simple packed dirt that's been cleared of obstacles like stone or vegetation. It allows pedestrians, mounts, and vehicles to travel with some comfort, but it needs regular upkeep to stay usable and it turns into mud (difficult terrain) when it rains. A packed dirt road falls into ruin after 5 years without maintenance.
Paved Road (1 mile)[edit]
Cost: 2,500 gp
A proper 5' wide road that's been paved with stone and/or concrete. It's comfortable for travel all year round, and requires less maintenance than a packed dirt road. A paved road falls into ruin after 20 years without maintenance.
Masterwork Road (1 mile)[edit]
Cost: 10,000 gp
This is a magnificent 5' wide stone or concrete road that's been made with great effort and care in conjunction with advanced construction techniques, like the major roads that the ancient Romans used. It's the same as a regular paved road, except it requires almost no maintenance whatsoever and can easily remain intact enough for travel after thousands of years.
Sidewalk (1 mile)[edit]
Cost: 5,000 gp
Prerequistie: Road (any)
A sidewalk is a pair of 5' wide stone or concrete walkways flanking an existing road which are reserved for foot traffic, allowing pedestrians to pass by the side of a road without having to share it with wagons, horses, etc. For double the price (10,000 gp/mile), you can make both sidewalks double wide (10' width) allowing Large creatures to use it too.
