Ki Mystic[edit]

Ki mystics are martial artists who almost exclusively use ki to cause and heal injuries.

Making a Ki Mystic[edit]

A ki mystic goes directly into the front lines of battle and have some healing ability to assist other party members.

Abilities: Dexterity and constitution most directly affect a ki mystic in combat.

Races: Ki mystics are more likely to come from races with less affinity for chaos than those with a tendency towards chaos.

Alignment: Any nonchaotic.

Starting Gold: 3d4×10 gp (75 gp).

Starting Age: Simple.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Ki Mystic.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A ki mystic is proficient with simple weapons, light armor, and shields (except tower shields).

Ki Strikes (Su): A ki mystic can use their ki to perform powerful strikes with effortless effort. A ki mystic can make a melee touch attack in place of any regular unarmed melee attack (possibly making multiple attacks with sufficiently high base attack bonus and other circumstances) that deals 1d6 magical damage at 1st level. At 3rd level and every other level until 11th this damage increases by 1d6. At 14th level and every 3 levels thereafter this damage increases by 1d6. If the ki mystic would attempt to strike a target that is somehow immune to supernatural effects (such as being immune to magic) or use this ability where magic does not work (such as an antimagic field), subtract 1 point of damage per damage dice. Two weapon fighting and similar attack forms are not allowed for ki strikes.

A ki mystic of chaotic alignment takes a -2 penalty on all attack rolls with ki strikes.

At 10th level, a ki mystic adds 1 point of damage to each damage dice of this ability (For example 5d6+5).

Ki Healing (Su): Beginning at 2nd level, a ki mystic can heal wounds (his own or those of others) by touch. Each day he can heal a total number of hit points of damage equal to his ki mystic level × half his base will save (rounded up). A ki mystic may choose to divide his healing among multiple recipients, and he doesn’t have to use it all at once. Using ki healing is a standard action.

4 + Int modifier skill points per level.

Ki Strikes: Add 1d6 every 3 levels after 20th as normal.

Ki Healing: Multiply base will save modifier by ki mystic level to determine daily healing pool as normal.

Bonus Feats: The epic ki mystic gains a bonus feat every three levels after 20th.

Playing a Ki Mystic[edit]

Religion: A ki mystic may revere or deity or not just as different martial artists would.

Other Classes: Dedicated spellcasters may see such a simplistic use of magic as a waste and some of the stricter martial artists like monks may view it as a crutch. Most classes do appreciate the healing abilities of a ki mystic however.

Combat: A ki mystic usually engages enemies directly in melee with little variation in tactics.

Advancement: Most ki mystics do not deviate from their art. A few ki mystics may learn from rogues to add some versatility to their abilities.

Ki Mystic Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in knowledge (arcana) can research ki mystics to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.
