From D&D Wiki
Khora[edit]
“ | You walk our land now young one. Far from home you have traveled to get here, yet not a speck of determination has left your eyes sense the day you started. Those magnificent eyes your people speak so highly of, the eyes that reflect the multiverse. Upon closer inspection, I can truly see their beauty. | ” |
—Darriulze, a Khoran epic |
Physical Description[edit]
By Skimlines |
Ranging from 4 to 5 feet tall, khora a are blue and gray-skinned people who are well renowned as scavengers and spellcasters. Young khora are born with grayish skin tones which become blue with age. An adult khora resembles a slender elf with sea blue skin and black or white hair. Their eyes are blue and very clear, like fluid glass. Their facial hair, like their lashes and brows, as well as their lips, tend to be a bit more indigo or purple in color, deviating from their skin and the rest of their body hair. They usually clothe themselves in either simple fine clothes, or regal, esoteric wear, with symbolism and jewelry that only they know the meanings behind.
History[edit]
The khora are a proud race of the night, hailing from a land where there exists no sun, in the Gates of the Moon. In their world, which has only lunar cycles and no day, they are considered one of the noble races and have enjoyed long lifespans that extend their wisdom. Their first appearance on the Material Plane prompted people to call them "night elves," despite them not having fey ancestry. Since then, khora have sent small batches of scouts, ambassadors, and messengers to observe this plane, as well as perhaps prepare for the makings of a settlement. The sun burned them, however, which made them seek safer refuge within places where its rays would not reach. Some came to settle along just the mouth of the Underdark, preferring not to mingle with the other denizens deeper in. Others sought refuge within the thick canopies of ancient forests. They never lost touch with their home plane, and khora still immigrate between worlds often, exchanging their findings.
Society and Culture[edit]
Khora live in small groups according to certain schools of thought, which they usually join at a young age. They commonly swap schools, as exposure to new ideas is encouraged. The largest school of thought is dedicated to scholarship and subservience to Selune, who rules the dominion of the Gate. Weekly meetings are held where people may give opinions and argue about existential topics and other scholarly things. these meetings are held in a wide arena which is at the center of every pristine khoran village. Milky moonstone is their preferred building material, mimicking the glowing abode of Selune's in Argentil. The khora are devoutly neutral, preferring to observe situations rather than be active. Their scant need for food or drink makes them experts at waste minimization, and they have such wisdoms that make them very adroit at magic. Spellcasters are commonly given positions as Selune's handmaidens or shield-bearers.
Personality[edit]
Khora are very wise people who contemplate much and act little. They are able to avoid hostilities due to their often neutral stances. As such, they do not find drows repugnant, nor humans particularly righteous. To them, all are equally prone to fallibility. Constructs sometimes puzzle them in this regard, due to their mechanical coldness and sentience. What they do not understand, they like to query on. Some people find them them too passive or snobbish, but khora are just very quiet, as they like to observe. If asked, they will gladly explain, but in a way that may not usually make sense. They like non-strenuous activities like strolling on moonlit nights and reading. When push comes to shove, they show off their gracefulness and adamant side to defend what they believe in.
