Jupotes (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Jupotes[edit]
Jupotes are a warlike race, like the orcs or goblinoids. But unlike they who rely on brute force and weapons, jupotes make use of their unparalleled innate magic ability.
Physical Description[edit]
Jupotes usually have yellow, scaly skin. They are reptilian and so have orb-like eyes with slits. These eyes are often brown and seemingly always with a menacing look. Their eyes are adorned with small spikes around the lid, which serve as eyelashes. Jupotes are entirely hairless. They have very small, saw-like teeth line their wide jaws, as well as feet and hands like chameleons and a short, curled tail.
History[edit]
Jupotes are believed to hail directly from the time of the sarrukh, which created all reptilian races. Even after the fall of the sarrukh, the jupotes remained relatively lucky and sheltered away from other civilizations. Left in seclusion, they knew only peace and not of the growing, changing world outside. Their home provided ample resource and shelter so they need not develop. They lived peacefully in the desert for some time until the age of humans neared. Then, races like the dwarves, orcs, and humans raided their civilizations and claimed it as their own.
Jupotes refer to this as their godsent moment. The sarrukh are believed to have made them to be a last resort weapon of sorts, which would activate under extreme stress. After being conquered, the rage initiated the jupotes into their true nature as cruelty destroyed their former peace. Their inner magic exploded in growth as they gave in to their anger and newfound bloodlust. In retaliation, they ended up killing at least ten dwarves, orcs, and humans for each jupote in existence. They won the battle to be free and drove outsider influences away, keeping them at bay. From there on out, however, they were no longer naive. The jupotes gained a taste for the blood of other races.
Society[edit]
Jupotes live in the desert, commonly with no other races amongst them, especially non-reptilians. They organize themselves in a similar fashion as yuan-ti, which they are agreeable with. Like the yuan-ti, they call themselves 'the favored ones' or vrae olo, as they see themselves as special from the other created reptilian races. They do not trust the friends of dwarves, orcs, or humans. At the mention of them or their allied races, the jupotes are ready to instantly pounce and kill. As such, they do not conduct trade with a majority of Faerun's races.
Jupotes worship the sarrukh as their parent race of creator deities. They believed their magic came from them, which they must use to wipe out enemies of the reptilian races. Long bouts of prayer are conducted in worship huts where jupotes can hone their magic through fasting and meditation. These practices are believed to bring them closer to the amazing enlightenment of their ancestors.
