  1. The SRD only gives a means to determine costs and weights of weapons for Large and Small versions based on the Medium weapons. Any other supplied values are the author's best determination.

The Japanese katana is a very unique blade, dissimilar to many common European swords. It is much shorter and lighter than a longsword, sporting a prominently curved blade, and only one sharp edge. Due to the unusually light nature of the blade, anyone with the weapon finesse feat would still be allowed to use their dexterity modifier instead of the strength modifier to hit. Katanas are very light weapons designed to quickly dispatch lightly armored combatants, but not people in heavy armor. When attacking a target with medium armor, you suffer a 12 penalty to hit, and a -2 penalty to hit against targets with heavy armor.
