Jack of Diamonds[edit]

A Jack of Diamonds makes items of great power with great speed and less cost than their competitors. While less effective in combat by virtue of their skill, they may be more capable than others when using their creations. They can equip themselves very well.

Making a Jack of Diamonds[edit]

While they make items well, they have to be used effectively for this class to be effective. Having other party members to make items for as well expands their power.

Abilities: Intelligence is very important for a jack of diamonds, as is charisma. Dexterity and constitution protect them in battle.

Races: If a race has an inclination towards the arts or towards the majesty of creation, it is likely to join this class.

Alignment: Any.

Starting Gold: 5d4×10 gp (125 gp).

Starting Age: Complex.

Class Features[edit]

The abilities of the Jack of Diamonds focus on making powerful items quickly and efficiently. All of the following are class features of the Jack of Diamonds.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Jacks of Diamonds are proficient with all simple weapons, light armor, and shields (not including tower shield).

Item Creation (Ex): The same as the ability of the same name for the Artificer in the Eberron Campaign Setting book.

Scribe Scroll: A jack of diamonds gains Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat at level 1.

Diamond Cut: At levels 2, 6, 10, 14, and 18, the jack of diamonds become better at making magical items, selecting on of the abilities below to be used, if he meets the prerequisites.

Speed of Creation (Ex): The time it takes the jack of diamonds to create a magic item of any kind is halved.

Haste of Creation (Ex): The jack of diamonds must already have the Speed of Creation Diamond Cut ability to take this ability. The time it takes the jack of clubs to create a magic item of any kind is reduced to one third, instead of halved.

Days of Creation (Ex): The jack of diamonds must already have the Haste of Creation Diamond Cut ability to take this ability. The time it takes the jack of clubs to create a magic item of any kind is reduced to one quarter, instead of halved or reduced to a third.

Essence of Craft (Su): The jack of diamonds cannot choose to take this ability before 6th level. The jack of clubs can create a magic item with less experience expenditure. The experience spent to create a magic item when made my the jack of clubs can be reduced by up to 500 XP (minimum 0) by doubling the time to create the item. If used with Speed, Haste, or Days of Creation, then the modifier from this is applied first and then the modifier from one of those abilties.

Glint of Craft (Su): The jack of diamonds cannot choose to take this ability before 10th level. The jack of clubs can create a magic item with less experience expenditure. The experience spent to create a magic item when made by the jack of clubs can be reduced by up to 1000 XP (minimum 0) by consuming 50 gp per experience point. This ability cannot be used with the Essence of Craft ability.

Soul of Craft (Su): The jack of diamonds cannot choose to take this ability before 14th level. The jack of clubs can create a magic item with less experience expenditure. The experience spent to create a magic item when made by the jack of clubs can be reduced by 500 XP per jack of clubs level by adding 5 days to the creation time per 500 XP reduced. If used with Speed, Haste, or Days of Creation, then the modifier from this is applied after the reduction in time from one of those abilties. This ability cannot be used with the Essence of Craft or Glint of Craft abilities.

Manufacture of Materials (Ex): The jack of diamonds cannot choose to take this ability before 6th level. The jack of clubs pays 50 gp less for materials per level of jack of clubs, minimum 0 gp. This cannot be used to reduce the cost induced by using any of the jack of clubs' other abilities or otherwise incurred from anything not derived from the base cost of the item.

Efficient Use of Materials (Ex): The jack of diamonds cannot choose to take this ability before 14th level. The jack of clubs pays 500 gp less for materials per level of jack of clubs, minimum 0 gp. This cannot be used to reduce the cost induced by using any of the jack of diamonds' other abilities or otherwise incurred from anything not derived from the base cost of the item.

Bonus Feat: At levels 3, 5, 9, 12, and then every fourth level after 12th, a Jack of Diamonds gains any Item Creation or Metamagic Feat.
