Jack-O’-Lantern (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Jack-O’-Lantern[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
Jack-O’-Lanterns are characterized by their pumpkin heads. These pumpkins have holes representing facial features which they use to convey emotions. Jack-O’-Lanterns can make their heads glow with a spooky light at will. Their bodies can be vines, gnarled wood, a normal human body, or even a spectral body that makes the pumpkin appear to float. They prefer to wear cloaks and long coats to cover their bodies. They also like to wear gloves.
History[edit]
Jack-O’-Lanterns have existed since the beginning of magic. When a pumpkin absorbs enough ambient magic it is able to form a body and become sentient. This only happens to one in a million pumpkins, making them very rare. Because Jack-O’-Lanterns are so rare, some believe them to be a myth.
Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]
Jack-O’-Lanterns don’t have their own society due to their sparse numbers in the world. Many Jack-O’-Lanterns never meet another of their kind, but they all tend to behave similarly. Jack-O’-Lanterns are surprisingly social, so they will quickly become attached to the nearest town. They will take on the customs of the society they find themselves in, but all Jack-O’-Lanterns are curious from birth. Once they have learned enough from the town they call home they will look to travel, to explore the world.
Jack-O’-Lantern Names[edit]
Jack-O’-Lanterns do not have any naming traditions for the same reason they don’t have any form of a society. They will adopt a name from the society they end up in. Many Jack-O’-Lanterns receive a nickname from the people in their home town. Jack-O’-Lanterns are genderless, but they have been reported to dress as either male or female.
