Io's Tears
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Druid 6, Sorcerer/Wizard 6
Components: V, S, M
Casting time: 1 full round
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect, or Area: 20-ft.-radius spread
Duration: 1 round/levels
Saving Throw: Fortitude partial; see text.
Spell Resistance: No

The ground shutters and cracks form across its surface, deep but thin trenches appearing and strange yellow boils. For a moment it seems as if it is over, when suddenly jets of pale yellow vapor erupt around you, devouring your flesh!

You break the earth and release stores of hazardous sulfuric acid, which erupts to the surface in a shower of sharp rock salts and dissolving vapors. Those caught in the area take 1d6 damage per level (max 20d6) which is half acid damage and half physical (bypassing slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning, and magic damage reduction), and they are blinded for 1 round as it gets in their eyes. A successful Fortitude save halves the damage, and negates the blinding. The affected area also becomes difficult terrain, and continues to erupt and force saving throws for as long as they remain in the affected area.

This spell can only be cast on unworked earth, rock, sand, and similar terrain. The difficult terrain remains after the eruptions cease.

Material Component: Crushed eggshells mixed with ash.
