Frequently characterized as a lesser dragon or proto-dragon, this mythical being bears a striking resemblance to a massive serpent, exuding an aura of benevolence. The Imugi distinguishes itself as a mesmerizing and enigmatic serpent-like entity who harbor the potential to evolve into full-fledged dragons.
Physical Description[edit]
Imugis are commonly sizable, python-like beings, often dwelling in aquatic environments or caves. Despite their serpentine visage, these creatures are believed to wield the extraordinary ability of transformation, capable of shape-shifting into human forms or assuming the guise of other creatures. Described as serpents or dragons of remarkable size and length, the Imugi presents a majestic and formidable appearance, adorned with scales that glisten like precious jewels and eyes that shimmer with otherworldly wisdom.
History[edit]
Folklore states that a certain sect of dragons were originally Imugis, or lesser dragons, which were said to resemble gigantic serpents. There are a few different versions of folklore that describe both what imugis are and how they aspire to become full-fledged dragons. Most believe that an Imugi could become a true dragon if it made accomplishments great enough to bend the heavens. By other accounts, an Imugi is a proto-dragon which must survive one thousand years in order to become a fully fledged dragon. In either case they are said to be large, benevolent, python-like creatures that live in water or caves, and their sighting is associated with good luck. There are a few tales of an Imugi saving the drowning, but just as common are the tales of the floods caused by irate Imugi or Imugi competing for territory.
Society[edit]
Imugi are usually water dwelling, frequently inhabiting rivers, lakes, oceans, and in deep mountain ponds. Though they do breach the water surface to frequent the land from time to time before returning to their home. Those rare few that choose to stay on land tend to always live close to some large body of water whether in a cave or blended into society assuming the guise of their humanoid form. Imugi are generally treated with a distant kind of respect, due to the potential dangers they can cause, but similarly the help they can provide.

Imugi typically have names pertaining to their domain reflecting meaning to storms or water.
Imugi Traits[edit]
Imugis are large, aquatic draconic serpents that have the ability to control weather conditions and transform. They rule over lakes or small rivers, and the fish inside them.
Ability Score Increase. When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. You can't raise any of your scores above 20.
Age. Imugi age similarly to others in the dragon family, typically reaching maturity at 50 years of age and living for millennia unless met with unfortunate fate.
Alignment. Imugi tend to be found more on the good side of alignment as their benevolent nature and grand quest to be worthy of the heavens and ascend to full dragonhood drive them. Though, the rare few scorned or ill tempered Imugi can tend to more neutral or even evil alignments.
Size. Imugi in their true form are known to be between 9 to 16 feet tall from tail tip to head, and weigh anywhere between 350 to 1000 pounds. Your size is considered Large in this form.
Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.
Amphibious. You can breathe air and water.
Emissary of Water. You have the ability to comprehend and verbally communicate with any Beast, Elemental, or Monstrosity that has a swimming speed, additionally you have advantage on Animal Handling or Persuasion rolls against Beast effected by this trait.
Guardian of the Depths. A being born from the depths of water and whose spirit reflects it, you have resistance to cold damage, and you ignore any of the drawbacks caused by a deep, underwater environment. Additionally your connection to water has allowed you to call it to your aid, as an action you can weave water or pull it from the air in a frosty mist to surround and safeguard yourself and your equipment. You gain gain a number of temporary hit points equal to your level + Charisma modifier. If a creature hits you with a melee attack while you have these hit points, the creature takes 5 cold damage. The elements stay surrounding you offering you protection for 1 hour or until dismissed as a bonus action. Once you have used this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest. You can use this trait twice at 9th level before needing a long rest.
Transform. As an action, you can change into a beast form, your humanoid form, or your true form. When you do so, your equipment melds into your new form or drops to the ground (your choice). Your statistics remain the same regardless of what form you take. When choosing to transform into a beast you may transform into any creature with the Beast type who is CR 1/4 or lower, size Small or Medium, and does not possess a flying speed. Additionally, while in beast form you are unable to make attacks or cast spells and retain the ability to speak. You stay in the new form until you use an action to transform or until you die reverting back to your true form.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Draconic, and Aquan.
