Igburn[edit]

We Will Find The OASIS

Physical Description[edit]

The igburn appear as tall, multi-limbed creatures. They are bipedal and vaguely humanoid in shape. But they are constructed of a wooden plant body, often with the semblance of a skeleton. Atop where their head and shoulders are tend to be bones from bygone animals, in particular humans. Their bodies are said to be hollow, filled with an organism that encompasses the darkness itself, with red eyes. The body is actually a sort of husk or vessel. Most igburns have four arms. Their bodies are quite limber and strong. From their rather natural appearance, it suffices to say they usually do not wear much clothes, nor do they have anything to hide.

History[edit]

The Igburn, a mysterious and enigmatic race of changelings, rose to prominence in the legendary land of Warrendell long before recorded history began. Known for their innate ability to alter their appearance, they exploited this talent to infiltrate the ranks of rival races and swiftly amassed control over the land through subterfuge and cunning diplomacy.

The exact origins of their power remain shrouded in mystery, intertwined with tales of dark pacts and eldritch magics. Some whisper that they discovered ancient relics buried deep beneath Warrendell, granting them dominion over the land and its denizens. As absolute rulers, they subjugated the peoples of Warrendell, employing harsh measures to maintain their supremacy. The Igburn ruled with an iron fist, hunting rare species for sport and pleasure, leaving much of the land despoiled and its populace dispirited.

Society[edit]

Structure and Influence

The Igburn society functions as a clandestine network similar to the legendary Illuminati, with members strategically positioned within the highest echelons of governments and societal institutions across Warrendell. They leverage their shapeshifting abilities to manipulate political and economic systems to maintain influence and protect their secrets. Their intricate web of power remains largely unseen, but their impact is felt across the land.

Communication and Sensing

Among their unique abilities is an intuitive bond formed through a vast, hidden fungal network that connects Igburn over great distances. This network allows them to sense the presence of one another and facilitates telepathic communication. It serves as the backbone of their society, enabling discreet coordination and the swift exchange of information without drawing external attention.

Secrecy and Code

The Igburn hold secrecy sacred, considering the revelation of their true nature the gravest of sins. A strict code governs their existence, and paramount among these laws is the imperative to maintain the world's belief in their extinction. They reinforce this belief through misinformation and subtle manipulation, ensuring that any knowledge of their kingdom in the forests of Lorem remains buried in myth.

Those who betray their identity as Igburn face severe consequences. The society spares no effort in hunting down transgressors and erasing any trace of their revelation. Witnesses are dealt with decisively to preserve the sanctity of their hidden community.

Cultural Drive: The Oasis Quest

The quest for the fabled Oasis fuels their collective spirit, serving as both a cultural touchstone and a symbol of hope. Even while operating covertly, the Igburn continually pursue this ancient goal, dispatching their young on dangerous journeys to seek the sanctuary rumored to hold the promise of regeneration and power. This eternal search unites them, instilling a shared sense of purpose across their scattered society.

In summary, Igburn society thrives in the shadows, defined by its commitment to secrecy, internal solidarity through a telepathic fungal network, and an unwavering pursuit of the mythical Oasis. Their existence is a blend of hidden strength and profound caution, ensuring their survival and influence in a world oblivious to their subtle hand.
