Hyrelliüm[edit]

If one thing finds it's home in every culture, it is folklore. Myths, legends, and half-truths made up by the people for a variety of reasons. Some are to explain phenomena, others used to scare those who believe them too easily. One particular tale which many races share is that of a "stolen child", replaced by a near identical new one. Of course, these are just tall tales from the superstitious.

However, in these tall tales, the hyrelliüm are found.

People of Myth[edit]

Sometimes, when a child is born, they simply become a hyrelliüm, often shortened to hyre. How this comes about is the failed research of many a philosopher or scientist. When the world may need them, they simply just occur.

For most researchers, the "hyre child" is just a once in a lifetime occurrence they have come to accept. However, when one digs deep enough into history, they will simply fail to find any information relating to or resembling this occurrence, as if they weren't always there. Even stranger, they appeared around the same time many aberrations began to show themselves, specifically mind flayers.

Many crackpot theories and concepts have been derived to explain this. Some propose that the hyrelliüm were created by mind flayers, others suppose that they may be mind flayers in and of themselves. Some others believe they are generally against these abberations which they have odd connections to, a rarer few suggesting that the hyre came back in time with mind flayers to fight them back, as a companion to that old theory. Who's right is anyone's guess, though, as neither party seems to speak much about it.

Strange Biology[edit]

Hyerlliüms are hard to distinguish from their parents on the outside, with their skin only glimmering slightly. Such things are often seen as signs of unnatural beauty, instead of taking it as the omen it is.

On the inside, however, is where hyre biology begins to show itself. No matter the race, they always have five hearts, and their blood flows a deep purple instead of red. While the blood is only an odd coloration, the hearts allow for extremely rapid regeneration inside their bodies, making them a naturally durable people. Their other organs are almost always the same as a standard human's, despite the body they find themselves in. These internals replace everything that would normally be within the race, leading hyre dragonborn to be incapable of breathing fire, hyre genasi to be incapable of using their innate spellcasting, hyre elves incapable of entering a trance, and other such things which render them outcasts in their own societies.

Odd Minds[edit]

No matter how a "hyre child" is raised, by what race or lack thereof, it never seems to make an impression on them. No matter what, some strange sense of independence and determination is always within them, leading them to be action oriented, naturally seeking the life of an adventurer.

Hyrelliüm Traits[edit]

Strange people with a biology entirely seperated from their parents.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution, Wisdom, and Charisma scores all increase by 1.
Age. Likely thanks to their biology, hyres age much faster, and naturally don't live very long. Most become mature around the same age a human does, most dying of old age near their 90s.
Alignment. Due to their seemingly built-in personality traits, they are very rarely anything but lawful, of some sort.
Size. The hyrelliüm, despite the biological difference, almost always end up the same height as their parent race. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.
Insane Regeneration. Due to the massive amount of hearts inside your body, wounds heal and cuts stitch unnaturally fast. As an action, you can roll up to 3 of your hit dice, and regain that many hit points. You may do this once, and regain the use after finishing a short or long rest.
Determination. When you fail an attack, skill check, or saving throw, you may use your reaction to add your proficiency bonus to the roll, potentially causing you to succeed. You may do this once, and regain this use after finishing a short or long rest.
Mental Fortitude. The mind of a hyre is nigh indomitable. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.
Languages. You can read, speak, and write Common and one other language of your choice. This is often the language of their parent, but it's not unknown for them to adopt stranger dialects. Additionally, you can understand Deep Speech, but cannot speak or read it yourself.
