Hypasomnie[edit]

The hypasomnies, also known as "The Sleepers" by other younger races, are a very old race of ancient beings who have learned to control their slumbers and the many advantages of such an existence. Originating from Gehoril, the hypasomnies have no specific homeland. They often travel solitarily and hunt for bands of other races with which to make friendships or family.

Physical Description[edit]

Hypasomnies are humanoid in appearance and stature. They have very pale luminous skin and similarly silken, silvery flowing hair that appears to shimmer and glisten in the moonlight. Hypasomnies often have light, colored eyes, which are often white, violet, grey, or opalescent. They have oddly nondistinct bodies and no distinction of decency and so are often naked.

History[edit]

The hypasomnies were born in the High Mountains of West Kaisite long before the continent was controlled by the human mass. Hypasomnies are few in number and seem to have all lived from long before the world of man, they have seen the old civilizations rise and fall and learned many things from their long lives. They are believed to have existed during the sarrukh empire times, being one of the races that interested the reptilians with their magical ways of sleep and dream. It is believed the hypasomnie's greatest tool is their connection to sleep, which allows them to forgo food and enter a low-power period, thus conserving their bodies through natural disasters. The home temple of the hypasomnie was destroyed during the war in which the dragons attacked Norias (the mostly human controlled continent including Kaisite, Adrad, Yalanem, and Zuanshi).

Society[edit]

Hypasomnies are mostly solitary roamers, though they do convene to host gigantic naps en masse. For them, it is normal to be narcoleptic and fall asleep just about anywhere. However, to others, this is sometimes seen as rude or unsightly. Thus, while hypasomnies are generally friendly and welcoming, other races have a condescending view of them and their lifestyle that seems lazy. They also are misconstrued to be stand-offish or stupid, since they seem not to care much for political affairs or self-gain. Hypasomnies believe that these are superficial things.
Hypasomnie society has no hierarchy in governance and they believe that all races are equal in importance in the grand scheme of things. They meditate in their dreams as they sleep, like elves do in trance, and often wander for long periods around mountains when they are awake. As such, some people may report seeing a small deity or spirit in those areas, mistaking hypasomnies for something else.
