Hydronian[edit]

The power of both evolved awareness and monstrosity ancestry coarse through this creature's veins.

Physical Description[edit]

The hydronians stand upright around 9 feet tall, evolved into having an anthropoid body featuring black to gray-white scales. They have a wide chest and shoulders to support their 3 serpent-like heads, each able to move independently. While heads don't duplicate after decapitation, they will quickly regenerate after combat, but the damage sustained will still be felt until they are properly regenerated. The head that regrows has the same personality as the one that died. They are incompatible for breeding with other species, but can form romantic relations outside their kind.

History[edit]

Originally hydras, these monsters were given newfound sentience by a forgotten God. The God laid a blessing on a clutch of abandoned Hydra eggs, the eggs hatched only to see the fading rainbow light of the being that gave them their form. They quickly found that they were alone due to their frightening appearances, and unable to reside in most societies. The other humanoid races decided to hunt them as trophies or if possible capture them for display in shows. Some principalities quickly discovered that they made excellent guards and soldiers, once bent to their will. A single hydronian can serve a family for generations. Those who remain independent tend to travel around the outskirts of society. Isolation has treated them well, however. They are never alone as their heads keep each other company and have grown independent personalities over the years, but they struggle to trust any other creatures.

Society[edit]

Hydronians rarely act in groups larger than a few due to their nomadic lifestyle and struggle to trust beings that aren't attached to them. They are not very hostile though, and are willing to make contact with others if there is something to be gained. Where they once felt pained by their appearance, they now take great pride in it and fear little due to their size. This contributes to intimidation being common to push their objectives, though they rarely escalate to violence. While not a hive mind, individual heads almost always tend to share ideas and rarely argue, having bonds far deeper than siblings.

Hydronian Names[edit]

Due to the presence of multiple heads, hydronians combine various first names of known languages (one for each head) into a 3-string name. Names are not gender specific and most often in Draconic.

Example: Xanros-Arjhan-Heskan
