Humanoid Mimic[edit]

Mimics are shapeshifting predators that take the forms of inanimate objects to lure intelligent creatures to their doom. However, very rarely, a mimic will be born with higher intelligence on par with its erstwhile prey. It may even, eventually, gain the ability to take form of its prey.

Such an unnatural specimen may then choose to leave its domain and seek out other creatures sometimes not merely for food, but for companionship.

Physical Description[edit]

The true form of a humanoid mimic is an amorphous, mass with beady eyes. A humanoid mimic can also choose to make its true form its humanoid appearance or some variant of it.

When a humanoid mimic takes the form of a creature, it shapes its mass as appropriate and changes its texture. Intelligent humanoid mimics commonly carry their possessions within their form, rather than dragging a sack or trying to carry a backpack on abnormal shoulders and usually take a vague form covered in layers of clothing and armor to hide their true monstrous form.

Humanoid Mimic Names[edit]

Humanoid mimics are unique enough that most will never meet another of their kind. As such, they have nothing from which to draw a name but the cultures of other creatures they've encountered. They might even adopt a nickname from another creature, which could be anything from an object, to a sentiment, to an insult.

Mimics also have no particular predilection towards gender, as they reproduce asexually.

Example Names: Leaf, Bog, Shifts, Bocks, Sax, Alder, Nu, Canteen, Mimi, Brauther, Curio, Tabler, Chester

Objectoid[edit]

The objectoid mimic is a humanoid mimic that doesn't forget its roots and, despite its newly gained humanoid form, chooses to transform back into objects.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Molded Body. From the texture of your body, you are ill-suited to wearing armor. You gain no benefit from any that you equip. Your AC instead equals 12 + your Constitution modifier, and you are immune to being knocked prone. You can still use a shield, and apply its benefits as normal. You can also still equip any items which would be worn on arms, hands or legs IF the form you have taken would reasonably allow it. Additionally, as your experience grows, you learn to shapeshift your body's surface into a hardened carapace for a time. Starting at 3rd Level, you gain immunity to acid damage. Starting at 5th Level, you can innately cast the barkskin spell on yourself once without material components. You regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.
Stake Out. You gain proficiency in Stealth and Perception
Inanimate Shapechanger. As an action, you can polymorph into an inanimate object of your Medium or Small size that you have seen, or back into your true form. While you remain motionless, as an object you are indistinguishable from an ordinary object. If the object is expected to move and does not rouse reasonable suspicion from NPCs (i.e. a set of fully enclosed plate mail that is indistinguishable from a person in full plate mail), you are also completely indistinguishable from that object. When shapeshifting, equipment may be dropped, contained within you (as long as your shape has the dimensions to accommodate it), or used (excluding armor, and only if your form reasonably allows it). If you die, you revert to your true form. You retain all of your normal statistics while in this form.

Beastoid[edit]

The beastoid mimic is a humanoid mimic that relinquishes its standard object camouflaging methods in turn for the disguise being its humanoid appearance and it gaining a grotesque or beast like form.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.
Natural Weapons. You have gained a lethal strength on par with more dominating predators, your humanoid form becomes lackluster in combat. You gain no benefit from any weapon proficiencies while in your humanoid form. While in your polymorphed form your unarmed strikes now deal 1d8+Strength bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage. Additionally, as your experience grows, you learn to shapeshift your body's natural weapons into a more lethal state. Starting at 3rd Level, if you make an unarmed strike you can make another unarmed strike as a bonus action. Starting at 5th level, you can innately cast the magic weapon spell on yourself for your unarmed strikes once without material components. You regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.
Hunter. You gain proficiency in Athletics and Survival
Feral Shapechanger. As an action, you can polymorph into a Large form, or back into your true form. While you are a Large creature you have a you have a climbing speed of 30 feet. If you die, you revert to your true form. You retain all of your normal statistics while in this form.
