Hinonva is a strong-minded deity given over as much to deep contemplation as he is to decisive action. He is unique in that his conscious and subconscious are active at the same time. They are one and the same like two sides of a single coin. Each aspect has a different set of powers and abilities although some may coincide. The god of the mind possesses a calm demeanor, as one completely confident in his clear-thinking ways but when angered he is a passionate warrior whom his enemies must fear. He strives to uphold the Balance wherever psionics and psychic magic are involved. Worshiped by all manner of psionic and psychic beings, the fair-minded deity has long been an advocate of the power of one’s mind. He is an amicable god who took great pains to foster psionics and psychic magic in communities wherever his church took hold. Hinonva appears as a youthful, robust, raven-haired and purple-eyed man of lithe muscle and catlike grace. His wise face is framed by a peaceful expression of thoughtfulness. He dresses in a simple flowing robe of purest white.
Dogma[edit]
“ Develop the latent abilities within you for that is your power alone. Be it Psionics or Psychic Magic for each is the ultimate art and you are its practitioner. Through lifelong discipline, strive to unite your will with your physical to become one. As well be willing to free your mind as well as freeing yourself only then will you have begun the path to true mastery. Free others, open their minds to the Power of Thought and you will show them the way to Hinonva.
Clergy and Temples[edit]
Hinonva's clergymen favor yellow garments with amethyst trim; many are Cleric/Scholar, Thought Apostle/Scholar, Dedicated Soul/Edurite or Psychic (Faith)/Edurite. Most remain aloof from worldly affairs and devote themselves to psionic or psychic research. They share their knowledge to the willing, someone as the mental parts spread. Hinonva's clergy actively creates psychic magic items or psionic items, which they usually sell to anyone with the cash to buy them. During war, Hinonva's clergymen happily sell psychic magic or psionic items to all sides, Many of Hinonva's clergymen keep busy looting out bits of psychic magical and psionic lore, recovering lost psychic magic and psionic items, and investigating mysteries. They adamantly oppose any attempt to destroy a psychic magic item, psionic item, any psychic magical or psionic place.
Hinonva's temples are usually located in urban areas. They are always well fortified to withstand outside interference, and they house extensive libraries. Most are also well equipped with various scrying devices. The clergy use them to spot infiltrators to keep an eye on the surrounding area.
Visitors to a temple of Hinonva's usually get a warm greeting so long as they show interest in the mental arts, more so if they have some unusual psychic magic or psionic item to offer for examination or money to spend on spells, powers, psychic magic items, psionic items, or information.
Relationships[edit]
Hinonva is served by the demigod, Zouken, whom he sponsored into godhood. He is allied with the Lords of Thought and has a friendly rivalry with Boccob. The Medium of the Deities is opposed to the Dark Plea, who he believes ultimately wants to destroy the minds of every sentient creature in the multiverse.
History[edit]
Hinonva is served by the demigod, Zouken, whom he sponsored into godhood. Hinonva was born as a regular human with great psionic and psychic potential, as he grew older so did abilities. His power increased in time as did his fame. He would go all throughout Airit helping its citizens and unlocking the power of the mind in those who desired it. It was this because of this work that people began to worship him and it eventually elevated him into godhood. It was when he became a god that Airit entered a golden age. Food was plentiful, conflict was minimal, technologies advanced, and lives were easier. It was 1000 years of peace thanks to Hinonva, psionics and psychic magic. It was this peace that brought their undoing by the hands of elven jealously.
It was during their celebration of 1000 year of peace otherwise known as The Thoughful Day, people all over the nation were celebrating psionics, psychic magic and Hinonva when giant rocks fell from the sky. These “meteors” crushed all in its wake, causing the earth to crack open and swallow up those who rested upon it. The seismic shock from the earthquake and meteor fall produced a large tidal wave to subsume Airit in water. It seemed all the defenses that Airit had were not enough to withstand nature’s assault except it was anything but natural. It was the elves of their neighboring country, Roralei, who grew tired of Airit culture, decided to take over but in order to do that Airit power must not spread any further than it already has, that meant psionics and psychic magic must be destroyed. This task wouldn’t have been as simple as it was if it wasn’t for the elves High Magic. Using High Magic the whole nation of elves partook in a ritual that would lockdown all forms of transport outside of Airit. Secondly it would weaken Airit defenses but not enough to be noticed. Thirdly the ritual would cause several natural disasters to occur when the population was at its highest and gathered together destroying psionic’s and psychic magic’s power sources, its people. Finally, the most devastating aspect was that for those who survived, who were few, a curse was placed upon this land… a null psionic/antimagic field encompassing all of Airit up to 50 miles outward into the sea. This all happens in a matter of a few minutes thanks to the leader of the elf nation, Shalheira Miraberos. In addition to being the leader of Roralei she was also the high priestess of Shar, the Mistress of the Night. Shalheira Miraberos had absorbed Shar into her, making her Shar’s Avatar in order to add her god’s power to the ritual. This was due because Elven High Magic can only be done by elves and Shar even though she was a god wasn’t an elf herself but Shalheira Miraberos was. This allowed the ritual time to be cut down from days to minutes using Airit 1000 year peace as a sacrificial component to power the spell as well as the eleven nation's own magical energies. Because of the speed and ferocity of the spell Hinonva had no time to act, by the time he realized what was happening 93% of his people had died and due to the doctrine at the time that stated should a god not receive enough worshippers that god would die and so Hinonva did or would have.
In this world the gods had come together to pull people from different realms to put into a melted pot of sorts to see what diverse groups could form. It was an experiment that all godlike beings agreed to. In order to not contaminate the result of this test the gods had to pledge noninterference and any who broke this pact was faced with consequence of a sort. Shar broke this pack by creating an avatar and contributing her power to the mortal's Elven High Magic spell. So then Sardior, il-Yannah, Oronis, OverSoul, and Zean, not wanting psionics and psychic magic to die, came together and formed a group for that purpose. They called themselves The Lords of Thought. As their first act they pull their energy together and performed several miracles to ensure the mental arts survival. First they put a bit of their power into Hinonva and placed him into a deep sleep that allowed him to avoid death similar to Mystra done for the sleeping god Auppensur. Then they created 5 artifacts called the Genesis Seeds, each seed had a portion of Airit copied moments before its destruction which included terrain, weather, and people. From there the Genesis Seeds would grow into the piece of Airit that was contained within it. The only thing the seed needed was a vast amount of psionic energy and psychic magic to fuel it, unfortunately due to the null psionic/antimagic field that now encompass Airit, psionic energy and psychic magic could not be gathered naturally. So the Lords of Though instructed their followers to make a pilgrimage throughout Airit and built a temple to each individual member of the Lords of Though in five separate locations. Then at each of their places of worship within a 5 mile radius psionics and psychic magic would function normally. Additionally any if they choose can partake in a ritual where they are blessed by the Lords and can practice psionics and psychic magic outside of the safe zones in Airit for a week. Even though these were a great boon for those who practice the powers of the mind it’s true purpose of each temple was to act as a battery and absorb the psionic and psychic energy produced by its practitioners and then feed it to the Genesis seeds when they were placed in the shire of Hinonva located inside each of the temples. Unfortunately the amount of psionic power and psychic magic needed to power the seeds was so massive that it would take 1000 years to accumulate with Airit current predicament. The seed were so tied to Airit that they couldn’t be separated from the land even if it was to place them into another psionically or psychically enriched location outside the continent. Fearing the elves and Shar from finding out their plans the Lords proclaimed that each seed must be hidden throughout Airit with a guardian and traps placed to protect them from discovery until the time was right to place them in their shrine. The Lords also declared that if their temple should fall as long as it was rebuilt in an appropriate location the dispersed energy would reaccumulate and transfer to its new location. Meanwhile, Hinonva although saved still suffered a great trauma causing his subconscious to become a dreamscircle avatar, a being whose dream self is unable to return to his physical form. Overtime Hinonva's dreamcircle avatar continued to develop his mental arts which eventually lead him to elevate to godmind status. It was then he created the Psy Study, a sprawling fortress sits atop a barren bluff in his dreamscircle. The only access to the study is by ascending a single great staircase guarded by an elder elemental of each type. No one can reach the study without the permission of these great elemental creatures, who answer only to Hinonva. The walls themselves are proof against teleportation and astral meddling, and those who try find themselves at the base of the great stair. Within the walls of the study, spells and powers that access other planes do not function. The study is a convoluted mazework of passages that cross beneath and occasionally through each other, leaving no mark of their passage but foiling the most diligent of mapmakers. Within this structure are private meditation cells for psions, sealed armories of psychic magic or psionic items, and both true and false studies that contain much of the psionic knowledge of the world. Those granted access to a true study (done with the approval of Hinonva himself) can find the answer to most questions. One hour of research is required for each question answered.
The Psy Study contains a copy of every nonartifact psychic magic and psionic item created by mortal hands. They are sealed beneath psychic and psionic wards and traps, and astral constructs and golems patrol the halls.
Although the Psy Study has its origins in the realm of dreams it eventually relocated its existence into two locations, one in the Astral Plane and the other in The Concordant Domain of the Outlands. The reason for this is the minds, their subconscious, of his mortal followers head to the astral plane location upon their death while their souls, their consciousness, head to the outland location both existing simultaneously but each unique to another. A person may even enter the astral plane location and exit out of the outland location without realizing it. Depending on which entrance a person enters they might encounter Hinonva but only in that corresponding form.
At the time when the Lords were making their preparations Shar had left her vessel to only to return 100 years later in a new plot against psionic, psychic magic, and this time new method of casting spells in the form of spell points. An unwanted effect of High Magic was Roralei's dimension barriers weakening to the point that their nation was invaded by the denizens of the realms of dreams, nightmares and madness, setting up events that would lead to a great war known as The Waking Nightmare.
