Rather than utilising a lever action to reset the bowstring, the pump-action crossbow uses an under-mounted grip on a slide-rail. Though this requires considerably greater strength to use, for a wielder of sufficient might it has the advantage of not requiring that the weapon be re-aimed between shots, granting a +1 cumulative to hit modifier for each shot fired at the same target after the first, up to a maximum of +4. Reloading the clip or switching targets negates resets this bonus. As an additional benefit, the distinctive sound of one of these weapons being pumped has been shown to have a noticeable effect on the nerves of potential targets, granting a +2 circumstance bonus to Intimidate checks that lasts for 5 rounds after the weapon has been pumped. Once this effect ends, it cannot be applied to the same Intimidation target within 24 hours.
