Harpoon Spider (4e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
A denizen of the Underdark, the harpoon spider is a lightning fast predator much feared by other denizens of the Underdark.
Lore[edit]
DC 15 Dungeoneering: Close examination reveals that the harpoon spider isn’t a spider at all but something far more sinister. Superficially it resembles a horse-sized black widow except it has 10 legs and a body covered with hundreds of razor sharp spines. Each of its legs terminates in a tiny clawed hand and its 8 eyes are horribly humanlike.
DC 20 Dungeoneering: It can extend either of its large mandibles on a long leathery tendril with surprising force. They are quite intelligent and may often be found nesting with ettercaps and monstrous spiders. They use these creatures to bolster the defenses of their lair. They have a particularly morbid sense of humor and enjoy “playing” with their food.
DC 25 Dungeoneering: A harpoon spider is a hunter, often stalking victims in a large territory around its lair. In combat it uses its harpoon fangs to reel in its prey and administer a bite once the prey is reeled in. If terrain permits it prefers to attack victims from a high vantage point.

Harpoon spiders love their usual tactic of harpooning prey and reeling them in before biting them. |
