Guhuza (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Guhuza[edit]
The Guhuza are a tribe of monkey people, who have been around since the dinosaurs have. The Guhuza are mostly sneaky like monkeys and big war apes, they are some time in the middle but it is very rare.
Physical Description[edit]
"Satori" from the Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki by Sekien Toriyama |
Guhuza resemble humanoids the size of humans. They have ape-ish faces and very simian bodies, including long grasping toes and long fingers. Their entire bodies are covered in thick fur save their faces and palms and soles. The Kwita subrace resembles catarrhine apes, like gorillas and chimps, and have much more muscle mass and burly bodies. Izina are more like platyrrhine monkeys, like capuchins, being more lithely built and swifter in motion.
History[edit]
The guhuza have been around for millennia and are the oldest known tribe of primates, believed to have existed alongside the ancestors of the common modern human back in the Days of Thunder. They haven't always been smart though. They once were just simple primates, able to use only the simplest of primitive tools. However, a mysterious and deadly plague struck, reducing their population by three quarters. While this was indeed a devastating blow, the survivors of the plague found themselves enlightened, having a tongue to comprehend and speak languages, as well as thoughts that were never known to their kind before. The plague, now known as the Simian Flu, has made these primates able to make a true civilization, allowing them to think about thinking, and ritualize their daily activities and make them sacred or important, thus elevating their mental capacities in the arts and sciences.
Society[edit]
Their society is much like humans but more primitive, even having been around longer they have just developed consciousness. Guhuza thus dwell in huts or rudimentary tents in villages. Some live on flat grounds and plains like baboons and mandrills. Others built hanging structures in tree branches or within trunks themselves, weaving intricate nests of communities in forests and jungles. Like primates, guhuza assist their own with daily chores like cleaning and grooming in addition to more modern activities like school. They are very curious creatures that venture out often to learn about odd creatures and other traditions. This kind of will to explore is encouraged in their society, and strangers are rarely turned away. However, if spurned, the guhuza can revert into a feral and vicious animal on the drop of a dime.
Guhuza Names[edit]
The guhuza's names are in their native tongue, which is unknown to most and impossible to print without appearing to be random strings of characters in Common. Thus, they take more normal names when entering society and addressing strangers.
Male: Caesar, Maurice, Blue eyes, Rocket
Female: Cornelia, Lake, Killoa
