Grukari (5e Race)
Grukari[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
The Grukari are a stocky, porcine race with features reminiscent of wild boars. Their bodies are covered in coarse, bristly fur that ranges from muddy browns and blacks to the occasional reddish hue. Thick, calloused skin protects them from the harsh environments they thrive in, and their upturned snouts, large tusks, and beady, calculating eyes give them a perpetually aggressive and conniving appearance.
History[edit]
Grukari, originating from an unknown plane, were removed from normal society due to there unpleasant and cutthroat nature. Much like goblins they were hunted and killed for safety and sometimes sport. As a means for survival some Grukari made themselves useful to there hunters, often agreeing to work for them or pay them for protection. Over time the Grukari developed a dependence on capital as a survival tactic, the useful Grukari are the ones that thrived. Public view of the Grukari changed from mindless monsters, to the cutthroat business minded monsters. Now, however, they were more.
Society[edit]
Grukari are independent yet social creatures, preferring to work alone whenever possible but banding together when necessity or profit demands it. They view cooperation as a temporary arrangement, only valuable so long as it serves their ambitions. To the Grukari, wealth and power are one and the same—there is no problem in their society that cannot be solved with the right amount of coin, a well-placed bribe, or a cleverly worded contract. Debt, both monetary and personal, is the strongest bond among them, often outweighing even familial ties.
Physically, Grukari are smaller and weaker than many other races, rarely excelling in direct combat. Instead, they rely on their sharp wits, mechanical ingenuity, and cutthroat business sense to carve out their place in the world. A Grukari’s worth is measured not by their strength but by their ability to manipulate, negotiate, and amass fortune through whatever means necessary.
Unlike some species that form deep, lifelong bonds, Grukari do not mate for life. Their society places little emphasis on romantic partnerships, and their reproductive habits reflect this. Female Grukari can have large litters of six to twelve offspring per pregnancy, ensuring that their numbers remain strong despite their often dangerous lifestyles. As a result, child-rearing is largely a communal effort within a clan, with older members teaching the next generation the arts of survival, deception, and deal-making from an early age.
