Historian. When the goblin takes the Help action to aid another creature's ability check, it can make a DC 15 Intelligence (History) check. On a success, that creature's check gains a bonus equal to the goblin's proficiency bonus, as it shares pertinent advice and historical examples. To receive this bonus, the creature must be able to understand what the goblin is saying.

Spellcasting. The goblin is a 5th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 14, +6 to hit with spell attacks). The mage has the following wizard spells prepared:

Cantrips (at will): blade ward, fire bolt, green-flame blade, ray of frost
1st level (4 slots): burning hands, false life, protection from evil and good, ray of sickness
2nd level (3 slots): misty step
3rd level (2 slots): counterspell, fireball, fly

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The goblin makes two melee weapon attacks.

Scimitar. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) slashing damage.

BONUS ACTIONS

Nimble Escape. The goblin takes the Disengage or Hide action.

Having some service under their belt, their higher-ups gave them a promotion. Being the most scholarly of the soldiers, these goblins will likely be studying magic or finding some way to use it on another. They are well equipped to take on enemies as a frontline combat mage or fire at others at a medium range. They often look down upon their fellow soldiers, treating each other distantly, and even fighting. They are isolated, preferring to lose themselves in a good spellbook.
