From D&D Wiki
Giant Tarantula[edit]
Huge beast, unaligned Armor Class 16 (natural armor)
Skills Stealth +4 Ambusher. The tarantula has advantage on attack rolls against any creature it has surprised. Spider Climb. The tarantula can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. Web Sense. While in contact with a web, the tarantula knows the exact location of any other creature in contact with the same web. Web Walker. The tarantula ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing. ACTIONSBite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8 + 5) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw, taking 4 (1d8) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If the poison damage reduces the target to 0 hit points, the target is stable but poisoned for 1 hour, even after regaining hit points, and is paralyzed while poisoned this way. Urticating Hairs (Recharge 5-6). The tarantula shoots bristles out of its opisthosoma in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 13 (3d8) piercing damage and is blinded for 1 minute. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't blinded. An affected creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

In the kingdom of spiders, the tarantula is king. Inhabiting a wide variety of dry deserts and grasslands, tarantulas are the largest known species of spider, some being large enough to devour birds. In certain cases, either naturally or through magical alchemical experimentation, spiders have been known to grow to more than twice the size of even the biggest folk. The same is true for these spiders, although their size tends to drown out those of others, towering over them as the giant tarantula casts its looming shadow. Hidden Burrows. While tarantulas don't use webbing to trap their prey, they do use it to conceal their lairs. They use trap doors to hide the entrance, luring their prey into a false sense of security before revealing themselves as they move in for the kill. Crown of Spikes. On the tarantula's posterior is a collection of natural needles known as "urticating hairs", which the tarantula uses as a quick defensive measure. It uses its hind legs to dislodge these bristles as a mist of spikes that cut flesh and irritate the eyes. They normally use these as an easy way to blind their enemies before escaping rather than for hunting, although a particularly clever tarantula might think to press this to its advantage. |
