Galinae (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Galinae[edit]
Born from a magical catastrophe centuries ago, the Galinae are hybrid beings of humanoids and chickens. Proud of their heritage, they jealously guard their history. Devotees of dawn, art, and good food, they live within large communities valuing manual labor and the land.
Lively and Expressive[edit]
The lively Galinae have a physique that appears strange at first glance, with a build and size similar to a human but with a shorter, bulging torso supported by long legs ending in claws. Their entire body, except sometimes their legs, is covered in feathers. On their arms, the feathers are longer and denser, giving the impression that clawed hands emerge from their wings. The color of the feathers varies from white to deep, iridescent black, passing through all shades of brown and red and yellow. Finally, their long necks bear a narrow head adorned with a straight and pointed beak, surprisingly mobile and expressive. They give birth to their children in eggs that require a few months of care before hatching.
Hardworking and Passionate[edit]
Lovers of well-done work and well-deserved rest, the Galinae may seem rough at first but are primarily welcoming and friendly, especially to anyone who wholeheartedly engages in their activities, apart from the brood, reserved for the community. Since eggs can be hatched by anyone, customs are extremely liberal within the same community, and the concept of family is very blurry, sometimes even nonexistent. Instead, it is precisely this community, often attached to land, that takes precedence and deserves protection at all costs.
A Veiled History[edit]
The territory now called Galia once housed a powerful but war-weary kingdom. Powerful draconic magic was cast on a national scale to alter crops and livestock, increasing their production, but unforeseen side effects gradually merged the inhabitants with the animals. Chickens being the most numerous, they affected the majority of the population, and the kingdom soon became inhabited by men-chickens, along with a few others who were chased away in the following generations. The royal family, in a fit of modesty, imposed on changing all portraits, paintings, and records, even abroad, so that no one could mock them or challenge their authority, before being ousted by an angry people who then dispersed without seeking a new leader.
The Egg or the Chicken[edit]
The Galinae regard creation as an art and a reward in itself, enriching the culture of the entire community, or even the entire people. They are extremely proud of their rich and flavorful culinary culture, their mocking songs, and their paintings on canvas or even on armor, making their knights, protectors of the communities, resemble Easter eggs. The common denominator is often the egg, with each woman producing one per day, making it abundant for painting and cooking. They also associate the egg with Lathander, whom they pray to along with Selûne and Sunie.
Ripped Away by Adventure[edit]
A stable and agrarian life within a close-knit community does not push spirited individuals toward adventure, but some may desire something other than a sedentary life, feeling out of place and leaving. Others are compelled by external forces, such as war, pillaging, or disease, to take to the road and even leave Galia.”
