Fungal parasite[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Fungal parasites vary greatly in appearance and intelligence. However more often than not they can be visibly seen on their host. Integrated within the flesh, living or not. They a central core of squishy fungus that moves very slowly expanding like a lung almost. This core is often protected by a much more tear resistant layer.

History[edit]

Generally these parasites in particular form over many years slowly becoming sentient and eventually developing into a creature capable of sustaining itself. These parasites can take over the central nervous system of various creatures, dead or alive. However should the creature in question have enough mental fortitude it may resist the parasite's control.

Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]

More often than not such a parasite does no occur often enough and they usually keep to themselves preferring solitude. Dead things are easiest to take over and much easier to maintain for these parasites. Using their roots to redirect nutrients throughout the body to maintain it's level of composition. Normally such a creature would be easy to spot due to the spores and direct connection to their host however in their evolution they've gained a mind and even possibly personality.

Fungal parasite Names[edit]

Parasites do not often choose a name of their own, usually going with whatever they are called when they can first remember.

Fungal parasite Traits[edit]

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1.
Age. Due to their mutated natures or even longer development they tend to live for around 600 years. Reaching maturity at 300 or younger.
Alignment. Due to their parasitic nature they more often than not are some varying level of evil. Only seeking their own survival.
Size. Considering your fungal core is not much larger than the chest cavity of a humanoid your base size is small, otherwise your size is the same as your host.
Speed. You're nigh immobile without a host, your base walking speed is based entirely on the host you inhabit.
Parasitic sight. Your sight entirely based on what your host is. However as your base form, you have tremorsense out 30ft.
Fungal fortitude. Your host is your life, thus preserving it as much as possible is key. When an attack would reduce your hp to zero make a constitution save DC 6 + damage taken. If you succeed you instead are only reduced to 1 health point. Continual use of this will result in your host deteriorating, if used more than 2 times between long rests the host will suffer considerable rot to the point of becoming more fungus than actual living matter.
Sun blight. Sun light weakens you significantly, hampering your abilities and cognition. In direct sun light, you have disadvantage on all Constitution and Charisma rolls.
Persistent spores. Able to filter the most potent of poisons, you have advantage on saves against poison and resist poison damage.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice from a possible previous host or perhaps your current one.
