Frost Folk (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Frost Folk[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
Frost folk largely tended to look like their human ancestors with light blue eyes, extremely pale and tough skin, and white or silver hair. Each of them has an obvious sign of their supernatural influence via a glowing left eye which they can use to issue out icy blasts of freezing mists. They are also always cold to the touch. Frost folk favor thick pelt armor and helmets fashioned from the skulls of large predators.
History[edit]
Once upon a time in a kingdom of battle-wizards went to war with an empire of demonologists living in a frozen wastes of the world. During this conflict, another people, long enemies of the demonologists but too weak to destroy them alone, made an alliance with both the wizards and the ice devils of Baator, or possibly Mephistopheles himself, to destroy their mutual foe. They were corrupted with dark, chilling power and became the first frost folk. Ultimately, no one really won that war when demon princes and primordial avatars started clashing on the material plane. While both of the great civilizations fell to ruin, enough of the frost folk survived to claim the northern lands as their own. In the centuries since, they’ve become nothing more than barbaric hunters and raiders taking what they want across the arctic, and sometimes further south during the winter.
Society[edit]
Frost folk organize themselves into separate tribal villages and hunting parties, usually situated on tall cliffs or icy caves, sometimes grouping together when they want to raid a particularly large settlement. Beyond the materials gathered from their hunts, which the frost folk are skilled at getting any use out of, their herds of furry beasts, and occasional crop fields around hot springs, the frost folk count on pillaging more civilized people for goods like captives, food, and weapons. Captives are also food but warmer. While raiding, frost folk are ruthlessly organized and disciplined as they set up ambushes, carve through defenses, and find what they want, often using their abilities of darkvision and snowsight to turn a night blizzard into a smokescreen only they can see through. The frost folk rarely engage in spellcasting beyond their innate talents, but those that do develop magical powers tend to favor cold spells, unsurprisingly.
Frost folk rarely have friendly relations with any group beyond themselves other than winter wolves, frost giants, and, much more rarely, white dragons. Most humans and goblinoids that live near frost folk fear them as quasi-fiends, which is not entirely inaccurate. It is said that the chill that issues from their pores is more than mere a physical cooling, but psychic dampening of good will towards these cursed barbarians. Any frost folk looking to break away from their bloody history may find themselves getting a chilly reception.
