Fraal[edit]

Little grey men? Hardly.

Physical Description[edit]

The fraal are small, thin, spindly humanoids, standing between 4 and 5 feet tall. Their build seems fragile while their skin is pale grey and appears wizened, making them appear old in their younger years. Their heads are large, round and slightly elongated, with large black eyes and a narrow mouth, while their ears are almost entirely hidden. While most frall are bald, some have wispy white, pale yellow or silver hair. Males tend to wear little but put on simple tunics when around other races. Females wear flowing dresses and sometimes elaborate headdresses. Other than this, there is little difference in the outward appearance of male and female fraal. Fraal are not given to display excitement or violent emotion.

History[edit]

Fraal are sometimes known as the "visitors" as they are not native to the Prime Material Plane. They are thought of as planewalkers, coming from another plane of existence. After arriving in the Prime Material Plane by accident, the fraal found themselves unable to return home. An encounter with the fraal revealed information that their "Dark Master" that gave life to their floating world had fallen asleep and must now be awakened. How the fraal were hoping to accomplish this is unknown. No large communities or fraal cities have been discovered, most likely due to them keeping to small, nomadic groups. The history of the fraal before they arrived in the Prime Material Plane is largely unknown.

Society[edit]

Fraal settle into small groups and tend to be found in areas where they can avoid hostile conflict. They are nomadic in nature and tend not to stay around one place for very long. Fraal have a very communal way of living, being used to having constant telepathic contact with their own kin. It is thought that a fraal can be driven mad if it is alone, being so used to having other minds surrounding it. Even while still in the womb, a fraal is psionically aware. Fraal normally speak among themselves using telepathy. They can speak Common to those not of their own kind, although at a slow speed, and are adept at learning new languages.

Fraal prefer a life of peace. They often spend their time in quiet meditation or studying local races, flora and fauna. They dislike physical labour, leaning more towards developing their minds. Fraal have a strong curiosity about the natural world, as well as the wide diversity of humanoid races in the world. Well-known creatures and monsters are amazing to the fraal, as are feats of magic. Fraal are vegetarians and can consume a great variety of plant life. They are suspicious of new foods but seem quite willing to try anything at least once.

Fraal are quite passive and try to avoid violence and confrontation. They prefer to negotiate when able, however they will defend themselves when there is no other option. When it comes to weapons, fraal seem to prefer to use long polearms such as the glaive or pike, as well as daggers and staffs. They are quite suspicious of new lifeforms, though they do have a great curiosity about them. They do not fear or hate other races. Fraal are especially intrigued by humans by their ability to adapt quickly to new environments and circumstances.

Fraal Names[edit]

Fraal names tend to be a given name from the parents, paired with a name given by their peers during early adulthood. These two names are joined without space or pause, (i.e. the names Lod and An become Lodan). This is followed by a pronoun to indicate gender - Il for males and Ba for females. The family name comes after this.

Example names: Lodan Il Tiras, Amariele Ba Nassin, Aliiri Ba Tir, Devisz Il Verasil
