Folivora[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

unknown.png

Folivora are sloth like creatures with a pear shaped body. They have long arms tipped with three claws for fingers. These claws are thick and meant for climbing rather than offense. Folivoras have faces that are mainly like a sloths, but more flat. Like sloths, they have somewhat long necks and short feet, along with a small stub which might be a tail. It is believed there is a magical organ inside them which allows them to levitate when desired.

History[edit]

Regular sloths ate the leaves of an odd tree, whose seed supposedly spilt from the Feywilds. After they swallowed their first bites, their tongues were unlocked and they could suddenly talk. With this came an unlocked sentience with intelligence beyond a great ape. This surprised the local population which hunted these sloths for food. They went looking for the magic tree. The sloths acted in their fastest pace. They would be no match head-to-head with the humans, but they could not only talk, but also float thanks to the tree's leaves now. It was time to be smart. They set up a variety of traps that the human populations would use to hunt in such a setting. These attempts were massively successful and either led the search parties astray or outright murdered them. Efforts to cut down the trees to starve the sloths were stopped when druids took the animals side. Eventually, they were allowed to live in peace and no one hunted sloths or even went near that forest anymore. The sloths came to name themselves folivora, meaning leaf eater. Within this forest they grew their own small civilization among the trees.

Society[edit]

Folivora in general believe haste makes waste. They love taking their time to lounge and do things, never quite rushing. Life up there in the trees with them is thus very slow. It is a wonder they ever roped up the trees with complex networks of vines to bridge their individual leaf nests. In their small groups, folivora mate for life and are family units. As they live up in the trees, they do not need to hunt since their diet is exclusively foliage. If they see a neighbor in distress, they will generally try to do the right thing. They may be slow, but their hearts are in the right place, about.

The natives which used to eat folivora remain wary of them. They have tried convincing travelers that the folivora are monstrous beasts who enjoy killing humans. Nonetheless, some people who like sloths like folivora too. they find them the same kind of cute. Druids and nature spirits get along with folivora best. While folivora occupy a layer of trees close to the canopy, they maintain amicable relations with the creatures on the lower levels as well as even some birds above the canopies. Their main enemies in these cases are predatory birds and caimans in the wet waters below. Folivora can swim somewhat, but not that fast, even to save their own life.

Folivora Names[edit]

Oddly enough, folivora use Common names mimicked from human nomenclature rather than Sylvan.
