Folding Shield (3.5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Cost: 75 gp Weight: 50 lbs. HP: 25
- Description
This special Tower Shield can fold in half into a Heavy Steel shield and back again. Folding it or un-folding it is a free action. Note: To use a Folding shield, one must be proficient with shields and Tower shields. Since it weighs much more than a regular Heavy Steel Shield, the Armor Check Penalty is -3 and the Max Dex Bonus is +4, also, the Arcane Spell Failure Chance is increased to 30%, although all other stats are that of a regular Heavy Steel Shield (or Tower Shield) when folded (or unfolded).
Shield Bash Attacks: You can bash an opponent with a folding shield (while it is a Heavy shield), using it as a two-handed martial bludgeoning weapon. If you use it as a weapon, you lose its AC bonus until your next action (usually the next round). An enhancement bonus on a shield does not improve the effectiveness of a shield bash made with it, but the shield can be made into a magic weapon in its own right. Note: Having proficiency with a Folding shield as a shield does not grant proficiency with it as a weapon and vice versa. This attack deals 1d6 damage.
