Fireball Priest (3.5e Class)
From D&D Wiki
Fireball Priest[edit]
The Fireball Priests descend from the legendary red dragon, Dragoich. Their main focus is on casting fire, chaotic, or lightning spells. They focus on casting their main weapon, the Fireball.
Making a Fireball Priest[edit]
Fireball Priests are strong mages who focus on the element of fire. They are best suited to standing in the backfield and attacking from a distance.
Abilities: Charisma is highly important to the Fireball Priest because their spells, and their Fireball saves are bassed off it. Dex is important to rais the AC of the Fireball Priest as well as Con to make them more resilent to hits.
Races: Fireball Priests are limited to either Human, Elf, Half-elf, or the Dragonborn varient of these three due to the fact that Dragoich himself was a man, and his wife was an elf and all Fireball Priests are decendents of either of these two. Some choose to become Dragonborn to become closer to Dragoich himself.
Alignment: Any non-good. Fireball Priests come in all shapes and sizes, and different alignments although, because of the destructiveness of fire, a fireball priest can never be good.
Starting Gold: 4d4 x 10, or 100gp.
Starting Age: As wizard.

Class Features[edit]
All of the following are class features of the Fireball Priest.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Fireball Priests are not proficient with any armor or with shields. They are proficient with Light Crossbows, Quarterstaffs and Daggers.
Spells: A Fireball Priest is able to cast Arcane spells, which are based on his/her Charisma. A Fireball Priest needs 10+ spell level in their Charisma ability in order to cast that level spell. (Example: 11 Cha is needed for level 1 spells, 12 Cha is needed for level 2 spells...) The difficulty class of the Fireball Priest's spells are 10 + Spell Level + Charisma Modifier. Similar to a Warmage, the follow spell list acts as their spell known list.

2nd—Continual Flame, Fireburst, Flaming Sphere, Scorching Ray, Fire Shuriken
3rd—Lightning Bolt, Fire Wings, Daylight, Call Lightning, Flame Arrow
4th—Blast of Flame, Orb of Fire, Orb of Electricity, Wall of Fire, Burning Blood

Fireballs(Sp): The Fireball Priest is able to cast a number of Fireballs a day as a spell-like ability, but varying in power. Casting a fireball takes a standard action. The Reflex save DC for the Fireballs is 10 + Cha Modifier + 1/2 of the Fireball Priests class level (Rounded Up). All fireballs deal 1d6/level points of fire damage, but each level of fireball has a different maximum damage done. (Example: A 13th level Fireball Priest can cast a level 4 fireball for 13d6 fire damage, but they can only cast a level 3 fireball for 11d6 fire damage). See the chart below for maximum damage, and radius of the fireballs.
Fireball Level | Radius | Maximum Damage |
---|---|---|
1 | 5ft | 4d6 |
2 | 10ft | 8d6 |
3 | 15ft | 12d6 |
4 | 20ft | 16d6 |
5 | 25ft | 20d6 |
6 | 30ft | 24d6 |
Flame Strike(Su): Starting at level 1, a Fireball priest is able to use flame strike as an ability. The flame strike coats all his weapons in roaring flames that do extra firedamage upon hitting an enemy. These flames are equivelent to real flames, except that the Fireball Priest is not harmed by them. See the below chart for duration, damage, and times per day the Fireball Priest can use it.
Flame Strike Level | Damage | Duration | Times Per Day |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 1d6 | 2 rounds | 2 |
2 | 2d6 | 4 rounds | 4 |
3 | 3d6 | 6 rounds | 6 |
4 | 4d6 | 8 rounds | 8 |
5 | 5d6 | 10 rounds | 10 |
Robe of Flames(Su): Starting at level 3, a Fireball Priest is able to center his magical flames to engulf his Fireball Priest Robes in roaring flames (similar to those from the Flame Strike ability), increasing his AC as well as causing any enemies that hit him to take fire damage. See the chart below for the AC bonus, damage, duration, and times per day the Fireball Priest can use it.
Robes of Flame Level | AC Bonus | Damage | Duration | Times Per Day |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | +1 AC | 1d6 | 2 rounds | 2 |
2 | +2 AC | 2d6 | 4 rounds | 4 |
3 | +3 AC | 3d6 | 6 rounds | 6 |
4 | +4 AC | 4d6 | 8 rounds | 8 |
5 | +5 AC | 5d6 | 10 rounds | 10 |
Ex-Fireball Priests[edit]
When a Fireball Priest transitions away from a Chaotic Alignment, the Fireball Pope Banishes said Fireball Priest from the Clergy, and they loose their robes, and all abilites besides the spellcasting abiliy. While Fireball Priests can be stripped of their Fireballs, Unarmed Strike, Flame Strike, and Robes of Flame abilites, they cannot be striped of their natural spellcasting ability.
Campaign Information[edit]
Playing a Fireball Priest[edit]
Religion: All Fireball Priests praise the legendary red dragon Dragoich, the red dragon that created the Fireball Priests in the first place. Legend has it that Dragoich faced one of the most powerful wizards of the land, and almost defeated him. On the ground almost dead, the wizard shot a transmutation spell at Dragoich, and turned him into a human man shortly before dieing. Dragoich continued to live his life as a human, and he found that his offspring were very powerful mages, due to the magical power from the wizard, which were exceptionaly good with the elemental fire spells. These mages became the Fireball Priests.
Other Classes: Fireball Priests don't get along well with most of the other classes, unless the other classes are able to show their worth, and their own power. From showing these traits, Fireball Priests are able to respect and get along with them, although fireball Priests view normal spell-casters as below him, because of their use of the imperfect elements, rather than soley fire.
Combat: Fireball Preists soley focus on damage, and nothing else. They are the magical artillery sitting in the back of the group, slaughtering anything that opposes him, or his group. In melee combat, the Fireball Preists can get along against a normal to weak opponent, but when gained up on, or against elite enemies, the Fireball Preists will be ripped to pieces.
Advancement: Fireball Priests tend to focus on improving their fire wielding abilities, and focus on gaining a stronger bond with Dragoich. Many tend to gain red dragons, or other draconic creatures as familars in order to learn more about wielding fire from the natural source.
Fireball Priests in the World[edit]
“ | The Fireball Priests are a mysterious, and feared group of mages. While few people know of the clergy's existence, there is no group of mages more powerful. | ” |
—Cardnial Pyross, Elf Fireball Priest |
Daily Life: Fireball Priest's work closely with their fellow Priests from their clergy. They do everything from searching for ancient spells from the time of the dragons, to search for artifacts from previous powerful priests. Some travel the lands, searching for powerful magic and wisdom to bring back to their clergy later in their life, where they become elders and become part of their governing body.
NPC Reactions: When others see a Fireball Priest, they are curious and slighty in Awe or Fear of them, depending on the NPC. After seeing them in battle, they become even more so.
