Fated[edit]

Ever since you were born, your future has been heralded by some other event. Whether you're predicted to slay a fearsome dragon, or destined to become enslaved by a powerful wizard, your life has never been truly left up to chance. Perhaps you've been training to prepare yourself for your fated event, or maybe you're trying to do whatever you can to avert it. Regardless, you have knowledge of an occurrence yet to come and what your role in it is. Are you afraid or excited by your encroaching destiny? What would you do to prevent or advance your event from happening? Is your reason for adventuring tied to your destiny, or is it that you wish to find allies to help you in resolving it?

Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from among Arcana, History, Insight, and Survival

Tool Proficiencies: A set of Artisan's Tools of your choice

Languages: One of your choice

Equipment: A set of common clothes, a set of artisan's tools (one of your choice), a small pouch containing 15gp, and your prophetic precursor (if it's an object, and it's small enough to be carried around or fit in a container you have)

Prophetic Precursor[edit]

Before you learned about your future, you were just another ordinary person. How did you learn about what is to come? Choose or randomly determine the way you happened to learn about your fated event from the table below. Alternatively, you can create your own prophetic precursor at your GM's discretion.

d6 Prophetic Precursor
1 One night, I received an otherworldly dream that detailed a grown-up version of myself in my fated event. When I woke up, my eyes turned iridescent violet.
2 While exploring, I found an ancient book that details my life from birth up until when I found it. Written at its final page is my fated event.
3 In my village, a stone mural depicts several important moments of my life that have happened. The only thing depicted that hasn't occurred yet is my fated event. What's even more odd about it is how it was drawn before I was born.
4 A friend in my childhood always said they could see the future and told me several things about mine. So far, everything they've said about me has come true except my fated event.
5 One day, I became possessed by a demon and was eventually exorcised. Before the demon left my body, they told me my fated event and showed me a vision of it.
6 When I was younger, I happened to find an ornate pocket watch. Occasionally, the watch would glow and print sentences on its glass which would predict future events. Currently, the watch is printing my fated event and isn't fading.

Fated Event[edit]

The central part of being fated is the ability for you to know your fated event. What makes a fated event special is the mystic connection it shares with you. Choose or randomly determine your fated event from the table below. Alternatively, you can create your own fated event at your GM's discretion.

d8 Fated Event
1 I am destined to kill my sibling.
2 I am destined to slay an abhorrent monster to save the world, although I die shortly afterwards from my wounds.
3 I am destined to spread a baleful disease to an entire town.
4 I am destined to fall at the hands of a friend's murderer.
5 I am destined to sacrifice myself to save another.
6 I am destined to turn into a grotesque monster.
7 I am destined to resurrect a fallen king at the cost of a family member's life.
8 I am destined to become the richest person in the world, even though I become blind in doing so.

Feature: Awaiting Destiny[edit]

The universe will go out of its way to ensure your fated event happens in order to maintain a timeline continuum. Whichever way is most natural, events will occur to nudge you towards your fated event. If you die before your fated event occurs, the universe will try to right itself and somehow carry out your fated event anyways. For example, if you become destined to kill your sibling, yet you die before it happens, a necromancer might revive you and cause you kill your sibling under their command. The only way to stop a fated event from occurring would be to cast the Wish spell to prevent it (or through other means at your GM's discretion).

Suggested Characteristics[edit]

As a fated, you have most likely been impacted by seeing your fated event in some way. Depending on what your fated event is, your response to it could be drastically different to another fated. Typically, a fated either trains to fight, or runs in flight as a response. Fated can come from many types of social and economic standings, but are often times lower in the hierarchical ladder. Additionally, fated never know exactly when their fated event will occur, so they typically are always alert; even if it leads to paranoia.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I like to brag that I can see the future, even though I've only seen one moment of it.
2 Occasionally, I like to do things of my past from a time before I became a fated.
3 Even when I'm at Death's door, I'm confident I'll survive because of my destiny.
4 I detest change and try to keep my life the same every day.
5 After I wake up, I extensively plan out my day's activities to the smallest detail.
6 I don't like it when others think I want my fated event to happen.
7 I love the attention I get when I tell people about my fated event.
8 I tend to treat everybody as if they're important, just in case they're tied to my destiny.
d6 Ideal
1 Duty. My fate is destined to happen, so I accept that it's my duty to follow through with it. (Lawful)
2 Freedom. I wish to be free from my fate, and I'll do anything to be rid of it. (Chaotic)
3 Revenge. I was doomed by my fate, so I'll ruin everyone else's futures so their fates are like mine. (Evil)
4 Friendship. I can overcome/achieve my fated event by enlisting the aid of others. (Good)
5 Denial. I am not controlled by destiny or fate. I carve my own future. (Any)
6 Survival. I have to survive in order to see out my fated event. It's my life's purpose. (Neutral)
d6 Bond
1 I confide only to my prophetic precursor, even if it isn't alive.
2 I feel indebted to anyone who distances me from my fated event.
3 Whenever I meet somebody for the first time, I judge them on how useful they'll be in preventing/achieving my destiny.
4 I distance myself from my family so they won't get caught up in my fate.
5 I can never truly love somebody because I'm afraid that they'll get caught up in my fated event.
6 I have somebody who I need to protect from my fated event, no matter the costs.
d6 Flaw
1 I am always paranoid since my fated event could happen at any moment.
2 I have a chronic fear of time and regularly have panic attacks when I think about it progressing.
3 I cannot bring myself to committing my fated event and will happily die in place of it happening.
4 I treat everybody as inferior since they aren't destined like me.
5 When I see somebody related to my future, I try and run away from them.
6 I believe that the universe is against me and will blame anything else for my mistakes.
