The Lockheed Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single-seat, twin-engine fifth-generation supermaneuverable fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities that include ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence roles. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is the prime contractor and is responsible for the majority of the airframe, weapon systems and final assembly of the F-22. Program partner Boeing Defense, Space & Security provides the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and training systems.
The aircraft was variously designated F-22 and F/A-22 during the years prior to formally entering USAF service in December 2005 as the F-22A. Despite a protracted and costly development period, the United States Air Force considers the F-22 a critical component of U.S. tactical air power, and claims that the aircraft is unmatched by any known or projected fighter. Lockheed Martin claims that the Raptor's combination of stealth, speed, agility, precision and situational awareness, combined with air-to-air and air-to-ground combat capabilities, makes it the best overall fighter in the world today. Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, former Chief of the Australian Defence Force, said in 2004 that the "F-22 will be the most outstanding fighter plane ever built."
An F-22 Raptor is armed with a Vulcan cannon, 6 AMRAAM missiles and 2 Sidewinder missiles. An F-22 requires a DC 45 Computer use check to detect with PL 5 or lower radar.
Vulcan Cannon[edit]
Damage: 4d12
RI: 500 ft
RoF: auto
Special: As a rotary cannon with a high RoF, an auto-fire attack covers a 20x20ft area and increases the save DC to 20.
A combination of Fire-Linked and Fire-Battery (d20 future) is used to simulate the abilities of this weapon. It is a battery of 3 "weapons", each weapon is a pair of fire-linked 20-mm automatic cannons. On a half trigger pull, the number of rounds fired is 75 for an auto-fire attack or 38 for a burst. On a full trigger pull the number of rounds fired is 150 for an auto-fire attack or 75 for a burst, in this mode the weapon deals +50% damage.
Sidewinder missile[edit]
The sidewinder is a short-range, air-to-air missile carried byaircraft, and it is used to bring down other aircraft. It has aheat-seeking guidance system that enables it to home in onthe engine exhaust of other aircraft.Sidewinder missiles have a minimum range of 500feet. If fired against a target closer than 500 feet, it does not arm and does not explode (but still deals 3d6 pointsof ballistic damage). Sidewinder missiles can be fired only from a missile platform mounted on a fighter air-craft. (This cost is already factored into military vehiclesthat regularly carry these missiles.) This platform pro-vides a +4 equipment bonus on attack rolls made againsttargets that produce a considerable amount of heat—specifically the heat produced by the jet engines andturboprops that power most modern helicopters andplanes.
The sidewinder cannot be fired at targets thatdo not produce heat. They can be fired at hot targets onthe ground (such as idling aircraft), but without the +4equipment bonus. To fire the missile, one must first acquire the target, which requires an attack action. After the target is acquired, firing the missile is an attack action. Once fired,a sidewinder missile travels one range increment(10,000ft) per round until it reaches the target, at which point an attack roll must be made. The missile makes a single attack roll each round until it hits or runs out of fuel (10 total rounds of movement). When the sidewinder missile hits its target, it explodes like a grenade or other explosive, dealing 20d6 points of damage to all creatures within a 10-foot radius (Reflex save DC 20 half).
AMRAAM missile[edit]
An AMRAAM has the same stats as a Sidewinder except for a 20,000ft range increment.
