The Ettekin is a fierce predator constructed accidentally using dark, necrotic powers. It is essentially a heap of assorted bones, amalgamated in a writhing, pulsing mass of flesh. It feeds on the corpses of the recently deceased, absorbing the rotting flesh and bone of its victims, adding to its grotesque mass. Its most distinguishing feature is its claws; made of long chains of assorted bone which fork at the tip to form the "fingers", they are the main hunting and subduel tool for the Ettikin. The Ettikin has the strange ability to use its mass and flexibility to burrow under the earth (albeit fairly slowly) in order to wait for suitable prey, where it first strikes out from under cover of earth with its claws to weaken and restrain its victims, then emerges to feed. In addition, the Ettikin can spew forth clouds of rot and is topped with a gaping maw in which it lowers potential meals to devour.

Special: Must be burrowing; targets may make a DC 20 perception check as a free action to receive a +5 reflex bonus against this attack.

Consume ♦ At-Will
Trigger: A creature starts their third consecutive turn grabbed by fiend's grip
Effect: The Ettekin swallows the target. Until the grab ends, the target is dazed and takes 10 ongoing acid damage. When the Ettekin moves, it pulls with it any creature grabbed by it, and the creature remains grabbed and within the Ettekin's space. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks by the grabbed creature. Only one creature can be consumed at a time. Successfully escaping the grab allows the victim a free basic melee attack as they burst from the Ettekin's stomach.
Special: If a creature dies from the ongoing acid damage of consume, the Ettakin may instantly spend a healing surge.

Ettakin Tactics[edit]

The Ettakin hungers constantly but prefers not to hunt for its victims; being undead, it does not require sustenance can wait indefinitely for its next meal. The Ettikin stays burrowed 1 square underground, with its claws close to the surface, using its tremorsense to detect prey. When all or most targets are over the range of Bursting Grasp, the Ettakin thrusts its claws out of the ground and attempts to constrict all those targets. In combat, the Ettikin will tend to draw ranged threats toward it and keep melee threats away using Fiend's Grip. Any target who attempts to out-range the Ettakin may be subject to its Bone Lasso. The Ettikin will use Thrash on any creatures who get too close, and will always attempt to grab as many targets as it can, using Alacritous Grip on the first threat whenever it recharges. It tries to hit as many creatures with Black Breath as possible, to make grabbing them with Fiend's Grip easier. The Ettikin hungers, and will devour the first creature it can get a firm grip on.

Ettakin Lore[edit]

A character knows the following information with a successful Religion check.

DC 15: The Ettekin is a monster comprised mostly of bones and rotting flesh. It likes to grab its victims.
DC 20: DC 15 plus: The Ettekin Can burrow and enjoys bursting out upon its prey; getting to close to an Ettekin can provoke it to quickly grab you in order to get you off of it.
DC 25: DC 15 & 20 plus: An Ettekin that has gripped its target can proceed to digest it; to make matters worse, it can also return fleeing prey to it with a lasso-like appendage.
