Eldritch Secrecy (5e Subclass)
Eldritch Secrecy Arcane Tradition[edit]
Those granted powerful magic by otherworldly beings are rare indeed, and rarer still are those in their number who are willing to share any of what they've gained. However, when a warlock does choose to bestow their secrets on someone else, the study of these secrets and how to utilize them can result in a small arcane tradition.
Where a warlock negotiates an exchange with a patron as the springboard to their power, a wizard of this tradition first practices the theory behind this exchange, then makes contact with the patron after reaching a certain point in their studies. As a result, these mages more closely resemble other wizards in their capabilities and appearance, and therefore can act more openly than most warlocks. Nevertheless, a careful observer will notice that their power is unknowable in its origin.
- Eldritch Inspiration
When you choose this tradition at 2nd level, choose an otherworldly patron from among the patrons available to warlocks.
Beginning when you select this tradition at 2nd level, whenever you gain a wizard level, you can replace one of the wizard spells you add to your spellbook with one from the expanded spell list for your chosen otherworldly patron. The spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots. Additionally, when you learn new cantrips at 4th and 10th levels, you may choose from the wizard or warlock spell lists.
Any warlock spell you gain from this feature is considered a wizard spell for you, but other wizards can’t copy warlock spells from your spellbook into their own spellbooks.
- Arcane Pact
At 2nd level, you may choose a pact boon from among those available to warlocks: Pact of the Blade, Pact of the Chain, Pact of the Tome, or Pact of the Star Chain. You may select the Pact of the Star Chain regardless of your patron.
Additionally, you gain your chosen patron's first-level benefits. However, you do not gain any armor proficiencies from your patron.
- Arcane Invocations
At 6th level, you learn three eldritch invocations from among those available to warlocks. You may only learn invocations with a prerequisite based on spells known, level, patron, or pact boon if you meet those prerequisites. A level prerequisite refers to your level in this class. You can learn an invocation at the same time that you meet its prerequisites.
You learn an additional invocation following the same restrictions when you reach 10th and 14th levels. Additionally, whenever you gain a level in this class, you may choose one of the invocations you know and replace it with another, following the same restrictions.
- Pact Ascendant
At 10th level, you gain your choice of the 6th or 10th level benefits of your chosen patron.
- Pact Elite
At 14th level, you gain your choice of the 6th, 10th, or 14th level benefits of your chosen patron. You may not gain the same features twice in this way.
