Eldritch monk[edit]

A young teenager throws a book in anger. He has been sent to the monastery as a punishment for breaking his father's favorite vase. Out of middle of no where, he has been stranded with bald monks. For the last few months, he had been through hell. In the mornings, the monks drag the night owl out of bed and into running around the monastery. The unfit human easily fall behind. In the mid day, they meditate in peace. The boy dislike this part the most as it feels like he dying from boredom. And finally, in the afternoon, the teenager flail around as you he tried to do some unarmed combat. The boy is fustigated at slow pace of progress. He should be able to master these things with ease.

The angry human youth stops at his rampage. He can hear smooth, silky voice slowly getting louder. It is his mysterious friend. He has never seen his friend, only hears his voice. The boy grows excited. He wonders what he is going to learn today. Ever since his arrival at the monastery, he could hear the voice late at night. The voice teaches him on how to hit with speed, not strength. Later in his training, the voice taught him on how to tap into his ki to fuel magic spells. And most recently, the voice grant him the power to never need to sleep. It was something he really desired after so many late nights and early mornings.

As a voice reach to the level of whispering, a skeleton ghost appear in his room. The, defiantly not scared boy that did not let out a girlish scream, raised his arm to prepare a fight. The voice, the voice of his friend, came of the monster. After a few moments, the boy calms down. He is happy to see his best friend for the first time. The undead tells the boy about his role in this world and his great power. The monster needs the boy to help to achieve his goal. Of course, joining up with an undead creature does have its benefits. The creature describes that under its guidance, the boy will have much more power. The power to escape the monastery and take revenge on his father. All the boy had to do is accept the undead creature as his patron.

Blinded by youth, pride, power, and revenge the boy excepted the deal and forever sealing his fate.

What is an Eldritch Monk?[edit]

Monks are known to train in monastery in isolation, far from any from any civilization, and far away from any help. A new monk often suffer from loneness as they are removed from everyone they know. Under the stress of training to be monk and "trapped" in a single location, it is not an easy life of being a monk. Powerful creatures are always seeking for a new soul to join their cause. They offer relief and friendship with these monks. Over time, these powerful forces corrupt new monks, similar to what they do to warlocks.

Eldritch Monks are monks that have been tempted by darker powers. They are half monks and half warlocks. Their ki has been warped to cast warlock magic. Each eldritch monks constantly struggle to resist the influence of their patron. The ones that succeeds, keep themselves relatively normal and attempt to be a better monks. The ones that fails, slowly fall into darkness. They become more like warlocks than monks. It is rare for an eldritch monk to always resist or accept their patron. They know that their patron is using them as a tool but cannot they cannot help themselves from accepting the great power that patron can offer. Often eldritch monks fall into their patron's traps and accept their deals when they are at their lowest or desprate.

Tasha's Compatibility[edit]

This class can use optional features for monk and warlock classes.

Unarmored Defense[edit]

Beginning at 1st level, while you are wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Wisdom modifier.

Martial Arts[edit]

At 1st level, your practice of martial arts gives you mastery of combat styles that use unarmed strikes and monk weapons, which are shortswords and any simple melee weapons that don't have the two-handed or heavy property.

You gain the following benefits while you are unarmed or wielding only monk weapons and you aren't wearing armor or wielding a shield:

Certain monasteries use specialized forms of the monk weapons. For example, you might use a club that is two lengths of wood connected by a short chain (called a nunchaku) or a sickle with a shorter, straighter blade (called a kama). Whatever name you use for a monk weapon, you can use the game statistics provided for the weapon.

Ki Magic[edit]

At 2nd level, by following the teaching of your patron or mysterious voices, you unlock your ki and magical spells.

Cantrips

You know two cantrips of your choice from the warlock spell list. You learn additional warlock cantrips of your choice at higher levels, as shown in the Cantrips Known column of the Eldritch Monk table.

Ki Points

Your access to this energy is represented by a number of ki points. Your eldritch monk level determines the number of points you have, as shown in the Ki Points column of the Eldritch Monk table. To cast one of these warlock spells, you must expend a Ki points equal to the spell's level + 1. The highest spell's level that you can use is shown in the Spell Level column of the Eldritch Monk Table.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell burning hands and the spell level is 2, you can cast burning hands as a 1st level spell by spend 2 Ki points or 2 level spell by spending 3 Ki points.

Spells Prepared of 1st Level and Higher

You prepare the list of warlock spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the warlock spell list. When you do so, choose a number of warlock spells equal to your Wisdom modifier + half your Eldritch Monk level, rounded down (minimum of one spell). The spell's level cannot be higher than Spell Level shown in Eldritch Monk table.

For example, if you are a 5th-level Eldritch Monk, the current Spell Level is 2. With a Wisdom of 14, your list of prepared spells can include four spells of 1st or 2nd level, in any combination. Casting the spell doesn't remove it from your list of prepared spells.

You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a short or long rest. Preparing a new list of Eldritch Monk spells requires time spent in "prayer" and meditation: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list.

Spellcasting Ability

Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your warlock spells, since the power of your magic powered by Ki. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a warlock spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Spellcasting Focus

You can use an arcane focus as a spellcasting focus for your warlock spells.
