Eldritch Insight[edit]
Your brush with the elder stars has left you with temporary eldritch power.
You briefly caught a glimpse of the lingering presence of one of the cosmic elder stars. Perhaps you accidentally glanced the notes of a wizard driven mad by an old one, or you witnessed the passage of an eldritch horror.
You gain one of the following benefits, either rolled at random or determined by the DM:
- Insight of Acamar, Star of Doom. When you gain this charm, a sphere of annihilation appears in an unoccupied space within 15 feet of you. This sphere cannot be controlled by anyone, and constantly moves to maintain a distance of five feet away from you at all times, deliberately avoiding touching you or your companions. You may use an action to direct it to levitate up to 10 feet in a straight line in any direction. After completing this move, or when 10 days pass, the sphere and the charm vanish.
- Insight of Caiphon, Star of Certainty. While you have this charm, you may use an action to produce a nonmagical effect identical to contact other plane. Once you use this feature, the charm vanishes from you.
- Insight of Delban, Star of Winter. While you have this charm, you may cast armor of agathys, frostbite, and ray of frost at will, without any components. You may also use an action to cast cone of cold once without components. Once you cast cone of cold this way, the charm vanishes from you.
- Insight of Gibbeth, Star of Unknowing. For the next 1d4 weeks, you are unable to be targeted by divination magic or be perceived by magical sensors, as if you were affected by nondetection. The charm vanishes from you when the duration ends.
- Insight of Hadar, the Dying Star. This charm has 7 charges. You can use an action to expend a charge to cast one of the following spells: arms of Hadar (1 charge), hunger of Hadar (3 charges), Evard's black tentacles (4 charges). Once all of its charges have been expended, the charm vanishes from you.
- Insight of Hastur, Star of Delusions. While you have this charm, you may cast minor illusion and silent image at will without any components. You may also cast phantasmal killer once without components or concentration. Once you cast phantasmal killer this way, the charm vanishes from you.
- Insight of Khirad, Star of Secrets. The next time you would make an Arcana check, you instead automatically succeed. The charm then vanishes from you.\
- Insight of Nihal, the Writhing Star. This charm has 4 charges. You can use an action to expend a charge to summon a star spawn grue (Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, p.234) that is friendly to you and your companions. Grues summoned this way vanish after one minute. Once all of its charges have been expended, the charm vanishes from you.
- Insight of Ulban, Star of Discord. While you have this charm, you may cast friends at will without any components or concentration. You may also cast confusion without any components or concentration once; the charm vanishes from you when you do.
- Insight of Zhudun, the Corpse Star. This charm has 5 charges. You may use an action to expend a charge to cast revivify without any components, or you may use all of its remaining charges to cast resurrection once without any components. Once all of its charges have been expended, the charm vanishes from you.
When you gain one of these charms, roll a Wisdom saving throw (DC 17). On a failed save, you suffer a random long-term madness effect for 1d10 days.
