The dragoons are people who hunt dragons. They do not make friends with them. Dragons are beasts to be slaughtered for the good of others, as they are menaces to society. Dragoons may make exceptions with metallics who are friendlier than chromatics. But at the end of the day, their trade is one that is ultimately repugnant to anyone of draconic heritage, and so the dragoons often return this feeling mutually. By killing dragons, dragoons gain supernatural power harnessing the spirit of their prey. They have developed techniques specifically tailored to take down these behemoths of the sky, and they are not afraid to use them. Dragoons, despite their killing of dragons, sometimes do revere them, a bit like how hunters honor their quarry. As such, dragoons sometimes emboss their armors with motifs of the magical beasts. Their power is an extension of the ones who have been struck down. Cleansed of their evil, dragoons sometimes see their craft extending dragons towards the common goal of good.
Dragoon Overview |
Characteristics: Dragoons use a variety of fast and hard-hitting attacks coupled with stances that allow them to maneuver the field swiftly. |
Religion: The most obvious deities that Dragoons worship are Tiamat and Bahamut. Indeed, many revere both deities as aspects of Io even if they follow the path of one or the other. |
Races: All Dragoons rely on Strength, and, depending on the path you choose, may rely on Dexterity and/or Charisma. Dragonborn almost never become dragoons unless their Rite of Rebirth ended up making them lusting for blood of their own. The most typical dragoons are that of humans, though elves, gnomes and halflings are not barred from this practice. |

Dragoon Class Features[edit]
All Dragoons share the following class features.
Draconic Blooddrinker[edit]
Drawing from your expertise in murdering dragons, you gain greater strength upon their loss. You have a bonus to damage rolls. The bonus is equal to your Constitution modifier. You have a +4 additional bonus when you hit a creature with the dragon keyword.
Polearm Assaulter[edit]
Historically, dragoons used weapons like pikes and spears to best skewer their enemies and pulverize the dragon flesh clean through. While you wield a spear-group weapon, you gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls.
Dragoon Arts[edit]
Dragoons take a variety of positions to better their tactical advantages in the battlefield, honing their bodies to act adroitly and maneuver around opponents. The many artful stances available to a dragoon allowed them to specialize and adapt to different draconic foes. You gain two of the following powers of your choice
Dragoon's Signature[edit]
The power of a dragoon lies in their great maneuverability and astounding jumps to reach the height of dragons, matching them on level ground before bringing them crashing down. You gain the Dragoon's Jump power.

Unique Dragoon Abilities[edit]
The introduction of the dragoon introduces the Impale keyword.
- Impale
If an attack has the impale keyword you can choose to attempt to impale the target if you are currently wielding a spear or polearm. Impaling a target functions similarly to a grab, in as much as the creature must be within melee reach (don't count extra reach from a weapon), and it requires a Strength vs. Reflex check. The target is considered grabbed and the use of your weapon is restricted until the impaling action is ended. You can choose to either maintain a one-handed grip on weapon, in which case the target is considered restrained or let go of your weapon and the target is simply immobilized.
You can only use impale abilities if the attack hits. The impaled creature can attempt to make an escape check in order to free itself. You can end an impaling action at any time as a minor action.
Additional powers other than your at-will lunge will be able to impale targets, and some will have additional effects if the target is already impaled.
Powers[edit]
A Dragoons powers are called umbrages and are utilized by exploiting the power of the fallen dragons they have killed whose blood they have bathed in. A list of these powers can be found here.
