How does Tripping work with Fliers?[edit]

So me and my DM are having a bit of a spat about Triping someone who is flying. I imagine it as being very similiar to tripping someone on the ground.

In one scenario you unbalance them (In my case with a chain) causing them to fall (maybe the cahin wrapped around their ankle, etc)

In the Flying scenario something very similiar occurs, you wrap a chain around their wing or something such as that and cause them to loose the ability to maintain flight and they fall to the ground prone.

Does anyone know if there are any ACTUAL printed rules for how tripping applies to flyiers? Thanks for the help!

The FAQ clarifies that it works fine on fliers or any mode of movement for that matter.
