So, the other day I took the featured article nomination templates on the talk pages of a few pages, and copy+pasted them onto their main page too. I should not have done this, and CL was right to undo this.
That said, my reasoning was because I wanted to set up something similar to CL's Control Panel, albeit designed for 5e, and directed more towards contributors than admins. (My ultimate goal would be to make it a page accessible from the 5e Homebrew Portal, and encourage potential contributors to spend more time improving existing pages). I was gonna include various lists, including 5e pages that need balance, and 5e pages marked as abandoned / marked for deletion.
But, most relevant to this current discussion, I was going to add a list that includes all 5e pages that are currently nominated for featured article status. The problem is, in order to do so, the DPL extension would need to look for both the 5e category and the featured article nominee category. When a 5e page is nominated as featured article, the 5e tag is on the main page, and the featured article nominee tag is on the talk page... which means the extension cannot add it to the list.
Is there a workaround for this? If not, then one of the following should maybe be implemented:
- Include certain categories from main pages on their talk pages automatically. The auto-populated list would then list talk pages of featured articles.
- Include the featured article nominee tag on the main page, if its talk page has the nomination template.
- A change in page rating policy that allows the featured article nominee template to be on the main page. The template would then link to the page's talk page.
Personally, I think the 3rd option works best as it would make visitors to that page aware there is currently a featured article discussion about that page going on. I also am unsure how the first two would be implemented, codewise. (using a bot? idk) In fact, I would go so far as to say I think the third option should be implemented even if there isn't a workaround, but that's just my opinion there.

What's wrong with the already extant nominees list on the featured articles page? It auto-populated with nominated talk pages- the part that people need to be able to interact with. People can easily move from the talk page to the mainspace page if they wish to read the article. Or am i misunderstanding what you're looking for?

Nothing major, really. The current featured article nominees list, however, is system universal, including 4e / 3.5e / such. If I was going to make the "5e Homebrew requiring Contributions" page I wanted to make, I'd want a list of featured article nominees that ONLY includes 5e articles, which is currently impossible(?) to autopopulate.
