Barbaric Sorcerer or Bardic Sorcerer?
Would it be better to cross-class a sorcerer with a barbarian (for melee damage) or a Bard (for the spell selection)?

I like the barbarian/sorcerer mutliclass idea because you can argue that whatever powers the rages might also power the spells.

question of mechanics[edit]

this is less a question of story or style as the anonymous reply above gives but more of mechanics. The real answer would depend more on what level you plan to make this guy. For anything under total level 20 id say barbarian the ability to fight when you run out of spells and to overall reduce your weaknesses is nice. although since barbarians and sorcerers have only dex as something they both like the dump stats of one class is going to screw with the other. For anything over total level 20 go bard. While most bard spells are the same or similar to sorcerer spells(except for the obvious healing and lower level sonic based spells) after 20 class levels casters stop gaining spells per day. while you wouldn't be able to use bard spells per day on sorcerer spells, it would give you much more magical stamina. Plus the prefered stats are nearly identical and neither class needs prepare time so there is no negative effect to getting the bard spells. Also those songs save lives when you know...you aren't busy with fireballs and lightning strikes.
