Class Features[edit]
All of the following are Class Features of the detective mastery class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency
A detective inherits all proficiencies from the thief class.
Deduce
The greatest strength of a detective is the ability for her to make observations, and piece them together to create a picture of what is happening. Starting at 6th level, a detective can make a perception check to find up to 4 clues. The higher the perception roll, the greater the significance of the clue. The number of clues a detective may find per circumstance goes up with level.
After finding clues, the detective makes a special Deduction check to piece the clues together. To this roll, the detective adds her total intuition modifier, and a +3 deduction bonus. This bonus goes up by +1 at 10th, 14th, and 18th level. Every four clues the detective finds add an addition +1 bonus.
A detective gains a +3 bonus to intuition and perception checks. This bonus does not go up with her deduction bonus.
DC | Deduction |
---|---|
10 | Vaguely understand what the clues are from, be it a place, person, or general plan. |
20 | Understand a sequence of events, and how one clue may have led to another. |
30 | Without knowing exact details, understand what events happened, who was involved, and what it led to. |
40 | Understand all details of exactly what happened. |
Track
A detective gains track as a feat.
Interrogation
A 7th level detective is skilled at getting information. A detective gains a +3 bonus to persuasion checks made against a target to have them reveal information they would otherwise have lied about or refused to share.
Predict (Ex)
At 8th level, a detective is capable of deducing what an opponent may do in combat. A detective may select a target and make a deduction check against them as a standard action. This check is opposed by an attack roll from the target. If the detective is successful, she gains a +3 bonus on all attack rolls, defense checks, and saving throws made against the target for the next two rounds. A detective may not make another prediction for the next four rounds.
Improved Feint
At 8th level, a detective gains improved feint as a feat, even if she does not have the normal prerequisites for that feat.
Clue Snatcher
A 9th level detective can apply her +5 pickpocket bonus to any clues she is searching for or has found.
Secret Sense (Ex)
At 10th level, a detective has an intuitive sense when there are secrets nearby. A detective knows if there are any hidden architectural features in a room, secret mechanisms on an item, or hidden information nearby. She gains a +3 bonus to perception checks made to find any such secrets.
Traceless
While tracking, a detective of 10th level or higher can attempt a dexterity check against the DC of the tracks she is following. If successful, the detective follows the tracks exactly, and leaves no evidence of her passing. If the detective is mounted, she takes a -10 penalty to her check.
Paper Trail
An 11th level detective is able to create clues where there were none before. A detective may make a calligraphy check to create a document. The detective then may make a sleight of hand check to place the document on a target of which she desires clues. The result of the detective's calligraphy check determines how effective the document was at creating clues. If the target realizes that the document is fake, the detective gains nothing.
DC | Clues |
---|---|
10 | One clue of meager significance is created. |
15 | Two clues of meager significance are created. |
20 | One important clue is created. |
25 | Two important clues are created. |
30 | One clue that is key to a deduction is created. |
Improved Evasion (Ex):
This ability works just like evasion, only that on a successful Reflex saving throw, the damage is instead reduced to 0.
Master of Prediction (Ex)
At 13th level, a detective's prediction bonus against a target rises to +5. Additionally, the first time the target would attempt to attack the detective after the prediction, they provoke an attack of opportunity.
Improved Disarm
A detective gains improved disarm as a feat, even if she does not have the normal prerequisites for that feat.
Master of Disguise
A 14th level detective gains a +5 bonus to all disguise checks. She also applies this +5 bonus to all perception checks made to not be fooled by a disguise.
Master of Deduction
Trouble Sense (Ex)
Foresight (Ex)
Simply Elementary (Ex)
At 20th level, a detective does not need to make an intuition or deduction check if the DC would be less than 30.
