Deerkin[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

At a first glance, they look like any ordinary deer. However, once they stand upon their hind legs, onlookers will be shocked to find the Deerkin are more humanoid in stature. Deerkin come in a variety of different colors, ranging from shades of grey to darker hues of brown. Their legs are that of a deer while their upper half is humanoid. Their bodies are covered with a light layer of fur, which grows longer over winter periods. These beings also have deer-like ears and a small tail. With the angular design of their legs, they can run slightly faster on all fours, and may transition to quadrupedism to camouflage themselves among other woodland creatures. Having a strange amalgamation of both hooves and opposable thumbs, Deerkin are capable of intermediate magic, and their bodies are known to channel it quite well.

History[edit]

An ancient race bred to be the vessels for gods, a few Deerkin have fled their malevolent, violent creators to the refuge of the surrounding forests of Elven country. They live in isolation, away from civilization and those not attuned to the forests they live in. For the longest time, Deerkin were considered a creature of Elven folklore due to their lack of extensive contact, and were mistakenly hunted due to their superficial appearance. Because of these early issues with the races of the world, they hope to stay forever hidden from the eyes of those who intend to do them harm. Despite their predilection for stagnancy, a few Deerkin have gone on to become famous adventurers and traveling merchants. Being playful and brilliant creatures by nature, Deerkin make excellent musicians and weavers capable of creating the most beautiful tasseled dresses.

Society[edit]

Due to being mostly forgotten by many, and an uncommon sight in the normal small towns or big cities, Deerkin are initially wary of visitors and strangers. However, they don't wish for visitors to be uncomfortable, and will eventually warm up to repeat visitors. Overall, Deerkin wish not to draw much tourism, because it could break the seclusive barrier between them and their creators. No matter what, they will not discriminate against someone due to their race, as it breaks their code of morality to judge others by appearances alone.
