Deadly Blade[edit]
Rogue Archetype
“ | "Don't be so quick to raise your weapon against me. You'll wind up with my blade in your gut. | ” |
—Artemis Vidette, Human Deadly Blade |
Deadly Blade by Shen Fei |
A Deadly Blade is skilled with stealth and hand-to-hand combat. He is a skilled at sneaking up on his enemies and and disappearing before they know what hit them. The Deadly Blade is a secondary combatant. He can hold his own in a fight, but wearing lots of armor hinders his abilities, so he prefers to use stealth to strike at his enemies and then retreat. Deadly Blades are fast and wise, but they aren't as strong or hardy as a straight-up Fighter.
This art was supposedly created by Artemis Vidette, a young noble who studied fencing from an early age. Other sources attribute the creation of the technique to the master of stealth by Thorzak Ardona, a Drow Assassin who saved Artemis from a group of thieves. Artemis went on to become a great vigilante, silently eliminating all who threatened his small corner of the world. Some claim that all Deadly blades can trace their technique back to a now disbanded group of vigilantes worshipers of Wee Jas, led by Artemis.
Some deadly blades still worship Wee Jas, as their path is constantly surrounded by death. These warriors tend to not fear death, but embrace it and accept their fate when it comes.
- Deflection
Starting at 3rd level, you can deflect projectiles fired against you. When you are wielding a melee weapon you are proficient with and are hit by a ranged weapon attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by an amount equal to your Sneak Attack damage dice.
- Improved Disarming
Also at 3rd level, when you hit a creature with your Sneak Attack from a melee weapon attack, you can forgo 2d6 of your additional damage to attempt to disarm your opponent, forcing it to drop one item of your choice that it's holding. The target must make a Strength saving throw against a DC of 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier. On a failed save, it drops the object you choose. The object lands at its feet.
If you successfully disarm your opponent, you can make an opportunity attack against that creature.
- Agile Movement
Starting at 9th level, your movement speed increases by 10 ft while you are wearing light or no armor.
In addition, when you roll initiative, if you are not surprised, you can move up to half your movement speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
- Counter
When you reach the 13th level, you gain the ability to counter attacks made against you. Whenever you use your Uncanny Dodge against a melee weapon attack from a creature within 5 feet, you can make an attack against that creature as part of the same reaction.
On a hit, the attack causes the normal effects and the damage you have taken from that attack is reduced to 0.
- Death Attack
Starting at 17th level, when you attack and hit a creature on that hasn't taken a turn yet with a melee weapon attack from a weapon you are proficient with, it must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, double the damage of your attack against the creature.
