Cudel (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Cudel[edit]
"Cudel? D'you mean the weird alien folk? Well to be frank, as long as they don't touch me, they seem alright. Though, Teyr has an issue with them, says they are 'dangerous,' but they helped me ma in the grocery store once." - An human from a small Mars colony after the "invasion."

Cudel is an alien species, yet humanoid in shape. They resemble cuttlefish, in that they have rubbery and tough skin that has sophisticated camouflage. Their skin can resemble various patterns and colors, and it is unclear if they have a base color, but they seem to have a preference for what skin pattern they display. Their eyes resemble a cephalopod's eyes in pupil shape. It seems that they have developed some kind of human-like hands and feet, yet instead, they rely on small suckers that line their hand and feet.
History[edit]
The History of Cudel is long and complicated, but this is a general overview of the most important aspects.
Origins of the Cudel[edit]
The Cudel originated from the seas of a distant solar system that they named Sunlicordo. Through evolution, they began to go onto land, form more intelligent and advanced brains, and eventually became bipedal, sentient seafarers. Their place of origin in their world was mostly made up of warm waters, and islands, and was frequently covered in storms. So early communities consisted of advanced swimmers who would swim over long distances to various islands. Once they got all the resources they needed, they took with them some food and begin to swim again to another island. They had small battles between family factions while exploring and separating until there were several different species of them. One of the species swam all the way across the world and would be "rediscovered" thousands of years later, named Hoorn. Today's Cudel is a more "civilized society" than the tribal species that existed many millions of years ago.
The Beginnings of Civilization and Colonization[edit]
Infectious Disaster[edit]
200 years ago, the civilization of the Cudel was flourishing. There was only one thing holding them back: their short lifespans. No matter what they did to maintain their bodies, they would always forcibly decay. In a time of worry, governments turned to scientists to construct a solution. But, their trials never did anything to help. In a desperate attempt due to the decreasing budget, they did a last experiment. They created a disease that would theoretically infect the body and override it’s function to kill itself. But, it went wrong. The first began in a lab: the disease was used on a small rodent. It was showing promising effects until the rodent seemed to construct cells exponentially fast. It was an abnormal effect, like a rapid cancer. Scientists were unsure of what was happening, so they tried to take the rodent to perform tests. But, it was hungry, and feral. It bit a Cudel scientist, and the Cudel rapidly started having the same symptoms. The outbreak exploded, causing 84 causalities. Ever since 1831 A.D., Cudel have been tormented by the Infestrum. They have searched for a solution, but the only feasible plan they have is to escape. They cannot destroy all of them, as the Infestrum also quickly took over most military bases, making it hard to find equipment to eradicate them all. They have been searching for help across the stars, quietly observing and locating other alien civilizations.
Society[edit]
Names[edit]
The origin of the label "cudel" given to the alien species was derived from the origination of the word "cephalopod." Unlike humans and LAIs, cudel chooses their "surnames" by a color their family has chosen. The cudel doesn't necessarily have to "wear" the color, but it is the color they associate with to be a part of their identity.

Age. Cudel spends 2 months in the egg before hatching. Then, they grow until they reach full maturity at the age of 15. Cudel tend to live until they are around 72 years old, due to the natural decaying process of their brain function that starts around the age of 68 years old.

Size. Cudel vary little in height and build, and are typically from 6 feet tall to 6 feet and 6 inches tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet. Your appendages allow you to swim and climb easier, making your swimming speed 40 feet and climbing speed 20 feet.
Cuttlefish Skin. Your skin is able to camouflage, giving you a great advantage in hiding. If you use an action to activate your camouflage, you can adapt your skin to change with the scenery around you, giving you advantage in Stealth checks as long as you are moving less than 20 feet per round, even if you don't have cover or concealment. If you move more than 20ft in one round, the effects of this trait is suppressed until the beginning of your next turn.
Lack of Bones. You have a lack of bones, making it easier to squeeze through tight spaces. You can squeeze through the same areas a Tiny creature can. Furthermore, if you are currently grappled, you have advantage on Acrobatics checks to escape being grappled.
Weird Tentacles. Thanks to how your tentacles move and their suction cups, keeping a creature grappled is a lot easier. If you have a creature grappled and they make an attempt to escape, you have advantage on your Athletics check to keep them grappled.
Cuttlefish Eyes. Your eyes are built differently, literally. It allows you to see more space around you and avoid blindspots. With cuttlefish eyes, you can see everything from in front of you to the sides of you, as opposed to humans that can only see in front of them and have to use their peripheral vision to look to the sides of them. As long as you can see, you have +5 to passive perception only.
Sensitive Skin. Your skin is susceptible to dryness and cold. If temperatures are freezing, or if you have been out of a body of water, rain, or fog for 30 minutes, you take an extra 2 hit points of damage against slashing attacks.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Cudeloqui, Hooris, and Common. You also know one other language of your choice.
