A mere creaky door can be one of the most dreaded adversaries of any sneak. A great short range warning. Imagine the rogue's frustration as they try their hardest to quietly open those rusted hinges. The same applies brilliantly to floor boards. The Japanese deliberately used creaking boards in their castles to protect from ninjas.
