Cosmology (Evarras Supplement)
From D&D Wiki
The world of Evarras contains eight groups of planes. These places roughly equate to the standard planes in D&D, though there are some differences.
The Matter World[edit]
The Matter World is the equivalent of the material plane in the Evarras setting. There are not many noteworthy differences in the actual nature of the plane itself.
The word "matter" in the Evarras setting was derived from the name of the god Mattanen, creator of the Matter World.
The Eternal Wilderness[edit]
The Eternal Wilderness is a land of wonder, variety, and nature. It is roughly the equivalent to the Feywild. Unprepared creatures who dwell there too long begin to see illusions and lose track of reality.
The word "nature" comes from Nauterii, maker of the Eternal Wilderness.
The Dark Wastes[edit]
The Dark Wastes are a vast collection of dead hopes and oppressive horrors. This area is filled with the remnants of broken dreams, and lorded over by cruel monarchs. The Dark Wastes equate to the Shadowfell. Creatures who go there often feel a crushing sense of insignificance, depression, and apathy.
The creator of the Dark Wastes is the goddess Shevarra. The word "shadow" is derived from her name.
The Primordial Quartet[edit]
The Primordial Quartet is the group of 4 elemental planes, each representing one of the core aspects of the world. The Quartet is essentially a grouping of the four Elemental Planes. Anything foreign that enters one of the sections starts to take on aspects of that element over time.
The word "element" is derived from the name of Elanafer, the goddess who created the Primordial Quartet.
The Etherium[edit]
The Etherium is a realm of thought, dream, and spirit. It represents the Astral and Ethereal planes. All living things that enter this plane take on wispy, metaphysical forms that represent their soul.
The word "ethereal" comes from Enthaos, the godly maker of the Etherium.
The Blessed Circles[edit]
The Blessed Circles are a group of 3 divine planes, each one representing one of the good alignments. The circles are aligned in a slanted pattern to represent the different levels of benevolence. The closest to neutrality is the circle of law, since lawful good represents right defined by a society or tradition, and a creature's moral compass may point toward less righteous objectives. The middle is that of the neutral good alignment, since neutral good creatures act to actively benefit others, and often no other reason. The highest circle is chaotic good, since these creatures possess a moral compass that directs them with virtue no matter what environment they are in. These planes are similar to all the upper planes in general. Any non-evil creature that goes there feels a deep satisfaction and righteousness, while evil things feel a burning hatred and pain.
The goddess Benava crafted these planes, and the word "benevolence" is derived from her name.
The Agonizing Depths[edit]
These dark planes represent the 3 evil alignments, separated into layers to differentiate between the levels of malevolence. The top layer is the layer of law, since many lawful evil creatures only commit evil acts in service to a higher power. The next is neutral, since these creatures perform evil to gain some benefit. The bottom layer represents chaos, since chaotic evil beings are evil for the sake of evil itself. These planes are mostly equal to the lower planes. Most creatures who venture into the depths feel an intense greed, but ones of strong good feel a seething anger.
The word "murder" comes from the name of Muardaon, the maker of the Agonizing Depths.
The Opposing Aspects[edit]
This pair of planes represents ultimate law and chaos. One is an ever-changing sea of unknown origin, and the other is a strict clockwork citadel created by a lost Original, though most people simply attribute its creation to a massive construct of godlike power. These planes are mostly equivalent to Limbo and Mechanus. Any creatures who venture into one of these planes feel the pull of the plane's alignment, and may find themselves overcome with the unshakable force of the plane's will.
Although there is much speculation, no mortal has ever truly divined the nature of these planes' creators.
