Colowred (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Colowred[edit]
There are stories of people born with talents and graces. Many of them grow up just normal and hone their talents well. Some, however, become possessed by their given powers and consumed. They take on hues that are strange, and perhaps even new personalities that may or may not correlate with their birth talent. These new hues, these colored auras, designate the death of one being and the birth of a Colowred.
Physical Description[edit]
Colowred can take the form of any race that was birthed naturally. What makes them different from their original species is they have been completely "rebuilt." They no longer retain any mind or abilities of their former race, just the appearance. Instead, they emanate the aura of a certain color, which will tell someone the nature of the Colowred, as well as determine their abilities and traits as a new Colowred.
History[edit]
When creatures are born "prodigies," they are often gifted with talent of some sort from birth. How this happens can be up to biological or mystical interpretations. Many of these prodigies grow up and live lives to envy. However, some studies have observed a strange phenomenon: where these prodigies mysteriously disappear. There is no trace of their death or any kind of end having befallen them. Rather than disappear in the traditional sense, people have reported seeing these mysterious prodigies resurface, but utterly and entirely different, with a changed personality and, most notably, a strange colored aura that envelopes them.
There is the speculation that they were somehow possessed by their god-divined talent. It is possible that however, the talent found their way into them, whether by unnatural or natural means, these beings were greatly changed. It is, however, incorrect to assume that they retain even their original talent, as many Colowreds encountered are never recorded to be "talented" in any way. It is as if the talent that consumed the host was merely a facade for some sort of parasite that took its true form.
As a result of this sort of "fugue" that occurs from the manifestation of a Colowred, many studies do affirm that the race is a sort of masquerading bodysnatcher which finds hosts while they are children. Where these things come from within the Weave is not precisely known but it has been popular theory they are created by a deity which sets them on children to punish their parents or, even stranger, their crimes in a past life.
Society[edit]
Colowreds have accumulated in population over time, and they do not lack the intellect necessary to create a thriving society. However, it appears that different Colowreds of different colors often simply cannot get along. Blue Colowreds, for example, find Pink Colowreds abhorrent and the latter finds the former obnoxious. This is possibly because Colowreds' auras seem to determine not only their abilities, but also give a general temperament, which doesn't always mesh well. Thus, the Colowreds often live in color segregated societies.
The population of Colowreds is expected to continue growing. Some do not enjoy living simply in their own communities. They often have no problem living with other societies, particularly mixed ones.
Interactions with Other Races[edit]
Colowreds can be courteous creatures, if not a bit ham-handed. They are known to trade in raw materials to producing industrial cities and have friendly relations with races that are very combat oriented, being of like nature. Colowreds are known, however, to despise Undead, even friendlier variants, to a degree where they may tar and feather them.
Colowred Names[edit]
