In this interactive fantasy adventure, readers become heroes in a quest to stop a clan of evil dragons from attacking and destroying their village.

Below you, not fifty feet away, two dragons—a red and a gold—are fighting.

The red backs the gold against a large rock and hooks its shoulders with its monstrous foreclaws. With the long talons on its hind feet, it is ripping into the gold’s underside. . .

The gold goes down and hardly puts up a fight as the red’s claws dig into its back and its teeth tear at its flesh.

Several minutes pass before the red backs off. The gold doesn’t move.

For a brief moment, the red stands over its victim, its back to you. It pecks at the gold with its mouth and picks at its foe’s body with its claws. It marches several paces on its strong haunches, spreading its wings, and takes flight . . . .

The gold dragon attempts to stand. A lonely wail issues from its torn throat. It begins to shout. “Clyto! Come back! You’ll pay for this, Clyto, you villain!”

You and Barnaby stare at the dragon. You may have had plenty of experience with dragon attacks and scales, but you’ve never heard one talk!

“Clyto!” the dragon wails once more.
Barnaby takes the knife from your hand and pushes past you toward the dragon.
“Where do you think you’re going?” you say.
“To put an end to it.”
“But. . . but it talks!"
“The dragons attack because they’re mean and they hate us. Now stand back, Tory. I’ve got to do this while it’s lying still.”

Should you let Barnaby finish off the dragon? Or should you talk to the huge creature and try to solve the mystery of the dragons?

1) If you decide to let Barnaby go, turn to page 14. 2) If you want to try to talk to the dragon, turn to page 20.
