Circle of the Primal Essence (5e Subclass)
Circle of the Primal Essence[edit]
Druid Subclass
“ | Nature is not bound by mere forms. To truly embrace its power, we must go beyond limitations. | ” |
—Elder Sylvaris, Primal Guardian |
Druids of the Circle of the Primal Essence unlock the deepest bonds with nature, allowing them to transcend the limitations of ordinary Wild Shape. Their transformations are tied to their wisdom and spiritual attunement, rather than arbitrary challenge ratings.
- Primal Shapeshifter
Starting at **2nd level**, your connection to nature allows you to assume more powerful forms than other druids. When you use **Wild Shape**, you may transform into a creature with a **CR equal to or lower than your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1)**, instead of the usual CR limit.
Additionally, you gain the following benefits while in Wild Shape:
• You can stay in beast form for a number of **hours equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1)**. • Transforming requires only a **bonus action**, instead of a full action. • You can speak and cast spells while in beast form, as long as the spell does not require material components that your current form cannot manipulate.
- Essence Infusion
At **6th level**, your Wild Shape enhances your abilities even in humanoid form. When you **exit** Wild Shape, you retain one of the following benefits for 10 minutes:
• **Predator's Reflexes**: Gain advantage on Dexterity saving throws and +10 feet of movement speed. • **Titan's Fortitude**: Gain temporary hit points equal to **twice your Druid level**. • **Mystic Senses**: Gain **darkvision up to 60 feet** (or +30 feet if you already have darkvision) and advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks.
You can use this feature **a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1)** per long rest.
- Boundless Transformation
At **10th level**, your mastery over Wild Shape allows you to **freely shift between your beast form and humanoid form** as a **bonus action**, rather than expending a use of Wild Shape each time.
Additionally, once per long rest, you may **expend two Wild Shape uses** at once to transform into a **Huge** beast with a CR equal to your **Wisdom modifier + 2** (maximum CR 6).
- Avatar of the Wild
At **14th level**, your bond with nature reaches its peak. You gain the following benefits:
• You can use **Wild Shape an unlimited number of times**. • Your beast form is empowered: it gains **resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage** from nonmagical attacks. • If you drop to **0 HP** while in Wild Shape, you may make a **Wisdom saving throw (DC 10 + damage taken)**. On a success, you instead drop to **1 HP** and remain in Wild Shape.
